    Title Question

I just bought a frame off E-bay with a title. it's out of Califorina and the guy was telling me they can do all the paper work on line including printing out the title. does this sound right? I really won't know till it comes , but a 250r with a title is all worried about. any info would be app.

Never heard of printing out a title online lol. Sounds like something a thief would do. I always have to go into the DMV.

You can't do that......I live in CA and all my trikes are registered and you have to go to the DMV and they print you out a temp registration then send you a new title in your name with a green sticker.

in michigan, pre 1986-1987 atc's didnt have titles.other states now.a title over the net is not leagal,a bill of sale yes.you have to go to secretary of state or dmv to get one.you may end up with a application for title and thats it.thats how michigan does it.they mainly want the sales tax on the vehicle

Ok from what he told me the title was in his parents name( to me that doesn't sound weird cause I put everything in my mothers name. EVIL ex-wife) and he was doing the paper work on line. Don't you just sign the back of the title(seller) and give it to the buyer(me) and I take it to the DMV in my state to reg. it? Now does he have to tell Cal DMV he sold it? Maybe taxes on the sale. The guy seems to have a good rating on ebay, no comp. sells alot of parts though I think he bids aginst you and after the auction will contact you with a 2nd chance offer for your highest bid, telling you the 1st buyer is a dick andhe's giving you a chance now. OK OK OK I know but I NEED at least one of my 250r's to be legal so for $150 plus shipping I'm willing to take the chance. But if he rips me off I'll post his ebay info for all to see. on last question has anyone WON anything off of EBAY.....I must be the only one who pays

Yeah that it how it works. He signs the back of it and you take it into the DMV. He doesn't have to do anything but sign it. Here in IL they don't tax you unless you bought it from a dealer.

yeah, but he is in NJ, as long as the bike is not hot, you need to walk in to your DMV locally and update it, it should not be that big of a deal. I think worst case scenario is they will want to inspect it, but I do not think they do that for off road vehicles. Only things that will be on the road. But I have been frequently known to be wrong, just ask these guys, LOL!

Get him to have his signature notarized so your state's DMV knows it is legit. The last trike I bought from out of state the CA CHP had to inspect. The officer told me that if it was hot it would be confiscated then and there. No exceptions. Then I guess you'd always have recourse through PayPal.

    wwell

Firstly its probably a stripped stolen frame so you will not get your wish in terms of at least one of your bikes being legal which says you have two others that are iffy?

Anyway yes I win just about every time on ebay, i use a software program to bid my highest price at the last second which provides no time for any others bidders to counter act thier bid. I can send you link to get it for free it is an awesome program.

here in WI, all you need to do is bring the vin#,make, model and year and color to the DNR station. They enter the vin# in the computer and issue you a new title and reg if you had a title or not. If you think ones you have are stolen they need to have there vin's checked, and returned to there owner. because if you have stolen property and are found out otherwise they can take all and any thing that could be used on the stolen frame.
i had a sled that was stolen a # of years ago, when they found where it was they took all the related snowmobile parts the guy had.

I don't know about NJ but in NY you don't have to go through all sorts of nonsense in order to get proof of ownership. I have paperwork for my 350x and I never got a title. You just have to fill out the appropriate paper work, pay the taxes, and DMV will give you a "non-transferable registration". After a year, if you renew your reg you will get a transferable registration. I guess that gives them enough time to do a check to see if the VIN comes up hot? I don't know how NJ works it though. If you have a friend in NY that you can trust you could "sell" it to him for $100, have him register it, and then a year later you would have legal paperwork for it in his name. At that point you could transfer it back to your name. It sounds like a lot of work but its probably easier than taking apart a whole trike just to put it back together on another frame.

You could also register it in PA where they don't ask for a title. You just pay for the reg fees. I know ChrisD has done this with two of his machines. Once you have it reg'd in PA you can ride it in NY or NJ with the plates and papers that PA provides you with.

New Jersey is wacko with laws. you have to have a title to reg it than they give you a C.O. no title just a C.O. which you have to jump though hoops to transfer in another state. Without any paper work the cops will take your bike and if a state trooper is pissy that he's dealing with you, it's gone and you don't get it back. But I need the frame mine is bent in the rear and it's a little twisted. I like big air and have to show-up the G-carts. I don't mind changing the frames, I've done it a few times sense 1985. I'll just have to wait till the 27th to find out
