just picked it up for $450. ill get pics up soon. The bike needs work. rear fender cracked up in one spot, gas tank leaks on both sides, the carb is varnished up good, the racks are a bit rusty, battery is dead, and one rear tire doesn't hold air. The good thing is its all original including the tires. How much will a tank run me? and a rear fender? I'm going to fix up the bike and make it into a good clean rider. The racks are gonna go to a friend of mine that does powder coating

I looked on ebay and saw new plastic tanks for sale and maier rear fenders too. Does anyone have experience with a plastic tank on a big red? should I buy a used metal tank or go with a new plastic? My goal is to have a very clean bike to ride, doesn't have to be a show bike.... And what about the maier fenders? Is there any drilling involved or do they just bolt right on?

Get a plastic tank - won't rust or dent.

Had my plastic tank on my BR for ~10 years, its not faded, still shiny, put some Honda decals on it. It looks sharp. Like it better than the metal tank, I don't have gas running down my knees...lol.

If its solid, and still looks nice, with a few pin holes, you may want to consider getting a tank lining kit. much cheaper than a new tank, and usually will seal up most small holes. The metal tanks are much better looking. Congrats on the buy, post some pics

Ok. the tank is a bit rusty so I'm going to go with the plastic tank. Should I go with a clarke tank or does it matter?
