My big red (1985 250es) has developed an electrical problem and I wondered if anyone has had the same problem. My battery tested right on the line between weak and bad so it has been replaced which did not solve the problem.
When I turn on the key nothing happens. No neutral indicater, no headlights, and the starter won't engage when the button is pushed. I can kick start the machine and the headlights and indicater come on but flicker a bit as if they arent getting battery power but the charging system is running them. As long as it is kick started it runs fine.
Its as if the key switch is not getting power but the switch is working because it won't kick start without the key at least being on.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Have you looked at
the neutral + reverse wires that run down the motor on the right hand side and connect to the switches there ?
After you locate those wires, make sure they are getting good connection.
They also have a disconnect at the back of the motor, where they route.
Just got to back tract from the lower right hand side of the motor.
I just have a gut hunch that ( those) is the culprit.
It was the main fuse that had the power to the switch killed. Now my headlights, tail lights , and neutral signal come on with the ignition turned on but it stiil won't start. I can jump the silenoid and get it to start.
I'm thinking its the silenoid that has gone bad and that possibly shot my main fuse. Does this make sense?
