    Thumb throttle problems

I'm new ti this forum. Been browsing for a while and found a ton of useful information. I have an '83 Honda ATC200. Problems with the thumb throttle. If I move the throttle cabe the engine will rev up. I tried zip-tying it secure to the frame under the tank, but it won't idle down. I have my carb adjusted properly. Is there an easy fix or upgrade? When I turn the handlebars to the left the engine revs up. Everything else on the trike works great. Thanks.....Matt

Good chance your cable is shot, or out of adjustment...
No trikes. Too old, too crippled. Unless I find one I can't live without!

I will look into a replacement cable. Does it come with the barrel/spring/needle that goes into the carb? If not, is it easy to switch over? I'm new to these three wheelers. I would really like mine to be reliable, I'm gonna use it mostly for ice fishing and yard work, and probably some beating on .

Why does it act like I describe? Do the tolerances in the cable wear out or something? Is this a common problem? Trying to learn as much as I can, I'm already looking at another trike.

ive never had that happen. you can just take the cable out, take the slide and everything off also. you will be left with just the cable.

Sounds like it's too tight. Take the zip ties off, make sure you have slack, with your handlebars turned to the left, then try it.

Had the same problem on a 185 (very similar machine) Ended up the gas tank bolt had come loose and allowed the tank to slide back enough to pull on the cable where it comes out of the carb. Its scary when your throttle sticks with no brakes!!

make sure the cable is routed correctly.if not when turning causes binding and actuates the throttle, causing reving.fix this it will cause problems, unsafe.

What is the proper way to route the cable? I seem to have it working pretty good right now, but for how long. The cable now runs under the triple tree below the plate for the handle bar mounts through the forks and then under the gass tank along the top of the frame.
