Hey, that looks like a real nice machine.
I have 85' Yamaha 225DX in Blue. I bought mine for $780 from the original owner with all of the original paperwork including the Bill of sale, Owners manual, all maintenance records, etc. I have wanted this particular machine for a long time and finally have one, its a wheelie machine! I have had several Hondas and have always loved them too, just happy to have found a good Yamaha for a decent price also.
Congrats on getting a nice lookin bike!

Thanks for all the positive commentsI did change the oil and gear oil in the rear axle today and adjusted the clutch. Still gotta check the valves and clean the carb but rode it around as long as I could stand it ( only about 6 degrees outside
) and it did really well. Needs a new exhaust, the silencer is rotted out, might look into a DG system unless I can find a really nice stock system. Also going to need tires at some point. They look like they are original but pretty weather checked.
I did take the front and rear racks off as well as the nerf bar/ skid plate. Looks alot cleaner now, probably going to set them aside in case i want to put them back on. And the nerf bar/skid plate is aftermarket, I found a sticker on it that said "Cambridge Metals and Plastics" looks like they are still around: http://www.cmp-wwm.com/home.html but doubt they are still making these for the 225dx. I'm guessing they might have made the rear rack, but not sure. It would probably also work on others like my ytm 200. But so far so good, really nice machine![]()
So what are your thoughts on the year of this thing? It was advertised as an 83 but I wonder if its an 84? the images on google for the 83 dx show different style decals than what this one has. Not that it matters much but might be nice to know. The carb does bolt to the intake rather than a slip fit like my 83 ytm200. But knowing the year might be helpful in trying to order the correct decals from the speed and sport guy on ebay. Anyways, lemme know what you think, thanks![]()
What is the VIN?
actually I did some looking around on the steering stem and found some interesting info. Interesting to me anyways, apparently it's a canadian machine. It has a date of 5/83 on the sticker along with : This vehicle conforms to all applicable canadian federal motor vehicle safety standards in effect on the date of manufacture shown above" also says: " Type-classification-mini bike this vehicle isintended exclusively for off road use"
Also appears to be an import sticker of some sort, it is round and has the maple leaf logo with the script "GMVSS - Canada Transport - NSVAC" Kind of cool I think. It also has a circular amber redlector on each fork and a rectangular red reflector under the taillight, as I understand these reflectors are mandated for atvs in Canada.
So I guess I found the answer to my question![]()
but theres a sticker on my big red that says it was made in 84, but sold as an 85. find your VIN would be your best bet

Gotcha, the vin is 29U-064638 so how do you decode the vin anyways?
