    1985 Tecate, first timer help

Im 15 and new to the site, and i just bought a 1985 tecate for $150, im gonna save up over a year or two and do a ground up restoration. I have been doing my share of research on the internet on them and the availibility of parts, and it doesnt seem like there are alot of aftermarket parts for them like the only aftermarket exhaust that i can find is DG, not that they arent a good company or anything but that dosent seem right that they would be the only company that makes aftermarket exhaust for them. Soooooo with that being said does anybody know of a some magical place that sells alot of aftermarket parts for the 1985 tecates as in extended swing arms, rods, big bore kts, carbs, heads. Just any info would be a HUGE help.

HREATV will build you a swingarm to whatever specifications you desire. As for old school.. keep an eye on Ebay for swingarms. Jemco will build you a Tecate pipe that will be far superior to anything made by DG. For rods, I think hotrods is your only option beyond stock which again check Ebay for. Jeswinehart makes and sells a lot of the parts you will need cheaper than stock if you can find them (intake boot, chain rubber). Carbs can be found here in the classifieds, just make a want to buy thread in the classifieds for what you are looking for. I swear by Mikuni TM carbs, most others swear by Keihin carbs. Sprock racing (Atc eric) on here is making big bore kits, I have heard that they are making a cool head as well). I would take a cool head too. If you have any questions feel free to ask the Tecate nuts in the Tecate group. We will have an answer for all of your questions and can probably help you find some parts.

Got any pictures? Please share them. I was around 15 when I got my first Tecate too.

Dcreel is dead on with finding what you need! Join the Tecate group for more information! As far as the internals to the motor....you cant go wrong with OEM rods! Just ask for a 2004 kx250 rod kit! The rods are all the same, and this will save you money due to the newer year at a Kawasaki dealership! Remember EBay, as there all deals out there to save you money! 2005 Suzuki Z400 will upgrade your throttle system, and rear brake systems. I used a 2005 Honda 300ex rear shock, just turn it upside down and mount it! Becarefull buying some parts that are 1984 Tecate. Some do not interchange....good luck kid. If you have any questions the Tecate group has plenty of knowledge for you, so dont be afraid to ask!

thanks for all of the support guys, i should be able to get pictures soon. its in pieces right now i stripped it down to the frame so it can get powdercoated so it really doesnt look like much roght now. but hopefully it will soon enough.

and another thing ive been hearing go around, does the sleeve have to be coated with something after it gets bored out? because the guy before be bored it .40 over and only put a couple tanks of gas through it. and i doubt he coated it if your supposed to, because he didnt seem like he would be type to know about it.

When you bore the stock Tecate cylinder it needs to be Nikasyl coated or renick'd. There are companies that do this and any company that does bore and hones should know where to send it. If the cylinder has been bored out and had a sleeve inserted there is no need for the nikasyl.
