    My 85 350x build thread...

Picked this bike up a couple weeks ago. Had a really bad top end tick.

    Getting it home:

Got it in the garage and torn down, the tick was from this:

Everything else motor wise looked in great shape!:

I wanted a bit more snap, so I upped the compression to a wiseco 10.25:1 comp piston (stock 81mm bore):

    Powroll small bore cam:

    New Honda oem rockers:

    Ported head:

I also snagged a Supertrapp exhaust from Kasey.

The plastic wear cracked pretty bad, so I dune cut them. I still need to fix a crack on the right side:

I took it out to the dunes on friday. I had messed with the jetting a bit at home. It was stock at 138, I upped to a 140. With that is went to a point in the rpm range and just stopped, like it hit a wall. I upped it 1 size and it started to cut out. I took the rocker cover off to see if the cam was on, which it was. I re adjusted the valves and took it to the dunes.

At the dunes i went up a jet size and it started getting better. The plug was reading ok and decent power around a 150 main. It only really had low end and some mid range, no top end really.

After each stop riding, I kept jetting up. I finally ended up having it a hair rich at a 162!!! WTF? I think it would be good at a 160, of course those are the only size I didn't have, the Tecate and 250r both like around a 160 main.

I also took some time and lowered the rear and softened the setting on the rear shock. So far it is a decent ride.

It has a rack welded on the grab bar which I do really like. I am also having an issue with the lights. I have one right low than works, left nothing, on high neither work.

    Looks great!

Did you get a voltmeter on the connections where the headlight harness plugs into the main harness? You can check the voltages there and if there is power coming from those wires you know its either in the headlight harness, the bulbs, or the sockets. I never had any luck keeping bulbs in my X's, they would blow out quite often. I put a 250R light on my current X and no more headaches. The bulbs are easy to get at the local auto parts store if one ever does go out and it goes better with the 250R front end I have on it.

LOL that's funny, I have the 250r light sitting on it right now, seeing how it would look. May as well just wire it up, got another dune ride next week.

I do head porting also, so does a few others here like Jason Hall. The piston is in stock at rockymountainatv.com . The wisecos they have are the 10.25:1 compression even though there do not state it on the website. I got the rocker arms from ronnies.com and the cam/springs from powroll.

I have part 2 and 3 on my camera I will upload it tomorrow (with no music) when I get home since there is interest.

The ride before last I ended up with a 162 main jet with 9 disks on the supertrapp. This last ride I added 6 more disks so 15 and jetted up to a 170 and it screams. I built this just for a dune cruiser, get you were you want to go, but not climb the big stuff and race, but honestly it takes the big stuff and it is getting damn fast. Sure my 250r is faster, but this is much harder to hang on to, it has power from start to finish. I was on a huge bowl on the backside and shifted hard from second to third and the front end just skied on me, dragged the grab bar in the sand. I know most say hell I do that all the time, but I was sideways riding a huge 80 foot high bowl and it scared the hell out of me.

I let a friend take it last night up the canyon. he said when he was up there he raced a few 450's on flat dirt road and he was right with them. They couldn't get more than a bike on it. I know it won't compete with modded 450s especially up the hills and in higher speeds (my 350x is one tooth lower on the front so 6th is usefull in the sand) but to even hang with 450's on flat dirt means it is running damn good.
