just got my first trike EVER

    yamaha tri moto 200

needs tons of cleaning up and some work as well
i dropped off the seat yesterday to be re-covered, the pan is fine and the foam might not even need to be replaced if i'm lucky.

i build furniture for a living, and am highly mechanical, and have a very well equipped shop ( hand tools, drill press, small mig, compressor ) and have a friend who's a machinist as well, so having parts fabricated is an option.
i know almost zero about engines however.
i can see it is going to need some of the wiring re-done, a new coil, and exhaust as an obvious start.
but on to the good stuff, the pull starter cord is locked up fully pulled out,( no kick start ) and the guy i got it from says it runs well but smokes .
he said REALLY smokes, not just a little bit.
i'm clueless as to why that is and what to do to fix it. all new engine gaskets ??? re-build the top end ??? re-build the entire motor ???

i just found the factory service manual in PDF forn, and am printing that out now, so at least i'll have that to help. but...............................

but i need all the help i can get.
the nearest bike shop is 25 miles away, but i'm hoping i can get my chainsaw dealer to rebuild the carb for me.

any advice i can get is seriously appericated.

thanks, and i look forward to learning some very cool stuff here, and can't wait to get riding this thing

pictures are after one hosing off, then 1 1/2 cans of gunk engine degreaser and another stong hosing job.
and i removed the plastic chain guard housing, as it was cracked in several places, and only had 2 of the screws barely holding it on anyway.

i'm assuming that the tires are the wrong size in the rear as well, becaus the right side is grooved and melted from rubbing on the muffler

i may be wrong but it looks like the tires are also treading backwards , and if its rubbing on the muffler something is really wrong good luck with it

Yea the tires definately look like they are on backwards. Neat looking little rig though. The small wheelers are fun and can get into just about any place imaginable.
