The "Gatorade" Gas Tank and "Snap On" Pull start

I have since fixed the gas tank and she starts on the first pull so I dont need the extension on the handle LMAO

Bruce, when I saw that you posted here, I was almost sure there was going to be a Tiger picture or the POS60! LOL I don't know if the magic file would be considered a jerry rig, but you should start another thread on wonder tools.

Here's an other idea for a pull starter handle... a snowmobile handle!
Has way more grip and it's pretty cheap.

I used mending plates as a "temporary" fix, to hook my rear brake spring up.

They have been on for two years now.

My cousin snapped off one side of the hangers underneath the seat of his '86 200x that keep the fenders up and off the pipe and we didn't notice till the rear fenders started melting on the pipe so we wrapped the outside of his cobra exhaust in house insulation and it worked perfect!

I have gotten away with at times some pretty crazy stuff...mostly engine wise.

I've held a rear brake caliper mounting plate on with a piece of electrical wire wrapped around the carrier because I was missing the snap ring.

I've put 250R(350X, maybe? can't remember) hubs on a Tri-Z axle with 3/32 tig welding rod shims on the splines.

And I didn't do this one, but a long time ago when I was really young and still riding my dads Big Red 200E a lot, some how, the camshaft in it broke in half. My dad being the genius he is, actually took the cam in the lathe, drills a hole in the center of each piece, presses in a pin, and presses the end that broke off back onto the pin. Joining the 2 pieces of camshaft back together. Put it back in and it ran, relatively well. I think that cam is still in that thing. Its not a ultra high RPM longevity fix, but it worked for me to plug around on as a 11-12 year old. I know that sounds like a total load of horse , but I promise it happened.

I've taken a seized piston and cylinder, sanded the high places off the piston, cleaned/cleared the ring grooves, and used acid to clean the aluminum off of the steel sleeve. Put it back together and ran it.

I've had a piece of a cylinder sleeve break out of an intake bridge on a late model 250R cylinder before. I ground down the sleeve where the piece broke out and smoothed it around where the ring wouldn't catch on it. Ran it. Alot, actually.

I've had a 250R motor with the piston installed backwards, which of course allowed the top ring to pop out of the groove into the exhaust port and get mangled, along with messing up the top ring groove. I threw the top ring away, put the piston back in the right direction with just the bottom ring, that motor is still running in my Laeger TRX quad. Runs good too.

This is all jerry rigging to a certain extent, but Its more of a functional thought process type. Any goober head can take a piece of a beer can and some jb weld and fix a hole in a side case.

We were riding at Wellsville about 5-6 miles from camp and my brother in law (6-11" 320 lbs) was on a 92 lt 250R and we looked down and his oil filler cap popped out and it lost all the trans oil.
Noone could tow him back because of his size and the terrain was long rocky mountains, and we were on Banshee's...not to mention about 11 at nite.
So..... Tammy and I flew back to camp, grabbed a qt of 10w30, and a Tampon from her purse ...Yes the female thing, and we filled that LT250R quad crankcase up with oil, jammed the tampon in the filler cap hole and ran the rest of the nite.
The Tampon thing was actually Tammy's idea...

He said that week at home, he had to yank that thing out with channel locks it was in so tight..Prolly could have ran it till the next oil change..

I actually have a polaroid of it still, on my toolbox..

I wouldnt call it a jerry rig...But necessity is the mother of all invention..

Cant honestly say I have jerry rigged anything..I never get away with it..
