    rebuilding 200m forks

I just bought a set of 200m forks and I'd like to change the fork oil in and possibly the seals. I haven't got them in the mail yet to actually see if the seals are bad but should be in by the end of the week. I didn't know if it would tell in a 200m manual or not. If anybody has a manual on a 200m or knows how to rebuild the forks I'd appreciate some help. This is going on my fork swap on my 200es so I don't have anything to go off of. Also could anyone recommend a good fork oil, I'm about 200lbs if that makes anydifferce anybody use ATF i heard it works good to.

Honda recommended ATF in my 250ES, and it works great... Just rebuilt them a month ago or so....

ATF seems fine in my 200x as well. Worst part of changing the seals was cleaning all the crap out of the sliders. Must have inhaled a lot of mud over the years. It took a lot of rinsing with solvent to get them clean.

If your shocks have a screw in the bottom that hold the baffle in place, using an air impact to spin it free is very handy. Otherwise, some shocks, you just crack the screw loose and whole assemly keeps turning instead of the screw getting looser.

I'll remember that thanks while I don't have a air impact wrench I do have access to one.

Ok so I got my parts in, bought some dextron atf, and I've got the forks out of the triple trees. The manual(above) on page 154 says I need to depress the fork cap and remove the snap ring. How do depress the fork cap, do I find a large center punch about the same shape as the depression and use it to press down or will I need to hit it with a to make it go down? I haven't tried to move it because I don't want to screw anything up. who knows?

I would try simply using enough firm pressure to compress it. I would not strike it with anything, as you will need to hold it down while you remove the snap ring. An assistant would help. Maybe a piece of wooden dowel like a foot of broom handle.

I didn't think it would need to be hit that's why I asked. I don't see any snap ring is it only visible when the fork cap is depressed?

My shocks, on the 200x, were of a different design. I'm guessing that you are compressing the fork springs, and that might take 50 lbs give or take. However that snap ring is located, it has to be set up to prevent the cap from coming off. Push it in a little and see what's revealed. I'm sure there would be a lip of it visible now, and more visible when the cap is compressed.

Got them all apart the oil seal turned out to be bad it leaked over night. Is there any way to get the dust seal out with out damaging it. It appears to be good but I need to remove it to get at the oil seal. Also I need fork boots but genuine honda isn't cheap any others out there cheaper.

Ok got them all apart I had to damage it to get it out, so now I'll need all new seals. I did find some new boots that will work for only 3.90. http://dratv.com/unfobo.html
