Help with Yamaha 3 Wheeler

Hey guys, not sure if this is the right place to be posting this question but giving it a try. Does anyone have an idea what the year and model of this 3 wheeler is. I have been searching the internet for a while now and thought I would turn it over to the knowledge of the forums. Any help would be awesome.

Ok after a few more hours on the internet I have come up with some info or at least as close as I can come. I am guessing it is a 1981 Tri-Moto YT125H (number stamped on the frame below the handle bars is 4U3-011581) This is about all I can find out. Am I getting close to on the right track. I would like to get this little baby up and running. Thought it would be helpful to know a little about it if I need to order parts.

LOL Looks like the trike I got last weekend. I bought a pair of trikes for 100 bux at an auction and one was a 1980 Tri-Moto YT125 and the other was a 1984 Honda ATC 110.

I just got my Tri-Moto running very well tonight by replacing a jet in my carb and doing a complete teardown of it and cleaning.

you can't get carb rebuild kits for the mikinis but you can individual parts. Easy carb to clean up.

Are you getting spark when you crank it over?

Just got a YT175, they are great. Usually the jets all clean up just fine. Should be easy to get running. I mixed my fixed tank on my YT175 since I wanted to make sure the OI system was working properly. Runs rich on the fix tank but its better than running lean.

I had a 175 back in the day, was replaced by by a YTM200EK...I'll say one thing, for a 2 banger that 175 lasted FOREVER!! It still runs today as far as I know! Real tough machine and zips around at a good clip too!

Well not yet ... someone gave this to me and said that the wire harness was cut. Once I torn it down or started to tear it down I noticed that the CDI Unit had the wires cut to it. Wouldn't you know they couldn't cut them long either had to cut them right up by the unit itself. So going to see if I can get some leads crimped to it or debate on dropping money on a new unit. Unless someone has a unit they wouldn't mind parting with for cheap.
Figured while I was in the mess I was just going to do a complete tear down of the motor and make her run like a top. So the project begins! Anyone have good suggestions on a parts place for these little devils. May need to do some more looking but haven't found a good place yet.

You will more than likely have to source your parts from several differnt places. And alot depends if you want stock parts or you want aftermarket parts. You can get yamaha pistons and rings and you can get wiseco pistons and rings. Most parts are not too hard to find. Rear fenders and tank covers are tough to find as well as new-original seats. Ebay can be a good source of parts, but you better make sure what parts you need and know what kind of prices parts are from the dealer or the aftermarket retailer. Some sellers on ebay often sell parts at higher prices and sometimes you can find nos parts for pennies on the dollar. So start doing research. And make sure you get the right years parts. Most parts from 82 and later yt125s won't fit the 80 and 82 yt125 and even some of the 80 and 81 parts are different from each other, so do lots of research. And get a shop manual!!!!! I can't stress this enough. It gives you all the proper torque specs and shows you gaskets and seals and all kinds of pretty pictures of how the parts should look. Do some searching on here. There are things you can do to make your trike nicer. A great mod is to get an entire yt175 front end and bolt it on your trike so you have front suspension. Don't think about too much in the way of engine mods though as the 80 and 81 yt125 parts don't work well the 82 and later parts and in most cases, not at all. And if you want a modded engine, your best bet is to just buy and 82 or 83 yt175 since the early and later engine parts don't work together. And make sure you get a stock airfilter and that you run your stock airbox or you will have all kinds of fits trying to get your engine to run right. Trust me on this one.

I'm curious about the stock airbox issue. My trike was missing the airfilter so I just bought an aftermarket oiled air filter that fit over the carb intake and have been using that. The trike starts up fine and appears to run okay but if i'm missing something, then I will put the factory airbox back on.

I agree I am interested in that airbox issue as well. The one on this trike is pretty messed up ... mice got to it. Looks like I may be looking for a new one.

Well the search for parts is on. Anyone have good places they use online. It is looking like there are limited places to get parts.

Well the trike is up and running. After digging into a bit it didn't need as much work as thought. Took her for a couple of drives and still have to get a few bugs worked out. I am thinking that the carb needs another cleaning. She bogs out when put into gear and just doesn't seem to have much power. Have to do some digging and see what I come up with.
