Honda ATC 110 Points ignition problem.... HELP Please!
Hi, I`m trying to repair an ATC110 for a mate. He just bought it off e-bay. It was a non runner, had no H/T coil and broken carb body. Also, the caged part that bolts on to the generator rotor has been badly welded and has chafed some of the wires on the alternator. He got another carb and an HT coil from unknown source. Ok, The alternator, I have repaired the chafed wires an insulated them with Araldite epoxy resin. Alternator has 2 wires coming from it. If BOTH wires are connected to the H/T coil + AND the CB Points AND the Condenser, the engine will start and run but the points are constantly arcing causing misfire. Othe side of H/T coil is earthed to the chassis. I need to get another condenser tomorrow to see if it will cure the arcing at the points, and also fit a kill switch. I dont understand why I have to use BOTH Alternator wires for the engine to run? There is no voltage regulator or rectifier or even a diode between the alternator and H/T coil. Is this "normal"? Engine starts real easily now with the points gap set an points faces clean and even revs well but backfires on the overrun and of course, the points are arcing continuously. Please, has anyone got any suggestions or a wiring diagram they could send me? I dont know the year of the trike, but must be an early one to have points ignition I would guess. Thanks in advance, if anyone can help shed some light! "Bungee" Steve, Farnborough, Hants, Nr. London, UK

what are points set at?i used to start my machine and set my points by eye.loosen them just enough to be able to move them and push them closer together until the arking stopped.

Thanks VERY much for the pics and FAST reply Harry! From the pics, I have the number 6 Assembly with internal rotor and external Alternator. What i`m after is, Where do the wires go from here? The Trike was bought "incomplete". If I run BOTH Alternator wires together to the H/T coil, points and condenser, I can get a spark and run the engine but points are arcing. Gonna try a new condenser today but would have thought the Alternator would have a regulator and rectifier connected BEFORE the juice reaches the H/T coil? If not, I could run 1 Alternator wire to a kill switch then back to the coil so I can kkill the Engine. Any ideas would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks again, Bungee Steve

Thanks Harry, will try that. I have the points set at a loose 12thou" tight 15tho" .... approx. 0.30 - 0.40 mm. Gonna try to get some new points and condenser today and see if it sorts it out.

Thanks MonroeMike, Youre a diamond! Got everything I need to continue the wiring. Just gotta wait for the C.B. points and condenser to arrive at the local bike shop! C.B. points are the same as fitted to Honda C90 (early type) here in England. Had a w/shop manual on order too but cancelled that now so you saved us a few quid (dollars) too!
Thanks again for youre help, safe riding bud!
