    Hunter Lake

Some pics of my backyard (not really, but almost), the Hunter Lake area. It's only about a 5 minute drive from me, and is actually the entry way to the eastern side of the sierras, so it's rugged, mountainous, beautiful country, endless trails, and very little traffic.

Since this is Nevada, it's legal to shoot guns out here as long as you are at least a mile away from populated areas. I'm no hunter, but I do like target shooting with my .40 caliber S & W Hi-Point, and the nearest free shooting range is a 45 minute drive to Carson City, so sometimes it's nice to hop on the trike and do some shooting.

The terrain is very steep and rocky to begin with, but eventually smooths out to hard packed dirt when you get a few miles in.

Really want to explore the backwoods much deeper, yet leery of riding this place alone; would really suck to break down or get lost out there. Any Reno trikers want to hit it up with me? Drop me a PM.

Wish I was a little closer I live in northern cali and about 3 hours to the border of reno nv. Do you ever ride up near susanville in the high desert areas? That pic looks (to me) right outside the cali border off 395. Is there a huge dry lake bed that people ride on near where the pics where taken?

No, I've never ridden up near Susanville. There is no huge dry lake bed either, but Susanville isn't that far from me, so it wouldn't be surprising if some of the terrain were similar. I've provided a link to RiderPlanet, an awesome website that lists the popular OHV and Motorcycle trails in the US. Here is their listing for the Hunter Lake area near Reno NV: http://www.riderplanet-usa.com/atv/t...0/map_469e.htm
The reviewer doesn't give the place a very good rating or description, but I've found the more I ride the place the deeper I want to go, and the more fun I have. There's no sand pits, but there is a lot of loose, dusty terrain, and lots of opportunities for drifting and getting sideways, and I dig the pine forests, it's a nice change of pace from the typical barren Nevada sagebrush desert terrain. And as you can see from the pics, the scenery is pretty awesome.
