    neutral saftey switch wire on 83 BR?

    where is it my electric start just stopped wrkin after a ride now i gota use the recoil not that its hard to start but now my recoil is not wrkin as well as it should cuz i think its dirty i cleaned it out & greesed it & its gettin better each time i use it but i want my electric start back thanks

    I think all the ES m odels have a neutral safety switch.

    All it does is ground it so you could fix the switch, harness connection or just ground it.

    Look at your wiring diagram (many free downloads) and see whats hanging up. It's usually a loose or bad connection..................

    Dirtcrasher - I thought all BigReds were 200ES models, but it looks like it was a 200E in 1983. I am troubleshooting a 84 200ES and the engine runs fine with a 185 harness and CDI, but I only get one spark with the 200ES harness and CDI. One spark means that when I pull start, the forst revolution sparks, and then no spark, but if I let it sit a minute, then spark on first revolution and then no spark. I thought that would indicate the CDI is bad, but after reading your post, maybe it is the neutral or reverse switch? To troubleshoot, would I ground the wire from the harness leading to each of those two switches?
