We lost a local kid on a bmx bike. No helmet. Wny is this story always the same?

Qualified for Nationals, nicest kid in the world.

Great triker, good helper. Always wore a helmet. 15y/o.

Unloaded the bmx bike in Albany for a meet, did a couple spins in the parking lot.

    POOOOOF!

    Just that fast.

How many people have eaten it simply by 'clearing the carb',
or once (more) around before loading out?

I just talked to him about working some firewood with us too since he was saving for a new bike.

yup, one of those small bmx bicycles with pedalpower only.

Must've hit the ground perfectly wrong, and no speed at all.

They say he was balancing on the rear wheel.

sorry to hear about the loss, shows how important it is to wear a helmet, and even that a vehicle that don't even have a engine can kill.

Sucks to hear. Too easy to lose it doing something as simple as a manual on a bicycle, I shattered an ankle doing the same thing.

You can go a looooong time cheating injuries; Then BANG, it happens.

If anyone's ever cut themselves with a utility knife, you'll understand how delicate we all really are.

Just flesh/bones and lots of arteries that can bleed you out fast.

A head injury can happen on the ice, some of us know how to fall but can still be caught off guard.

Sorry to hear about your friend, RIP!!

i just read an article about a 33 year old PRO rider that is in critical condition after a bmx fall!! It does not take speed or force to kill!! Just the right circumstances!! You just never know.

drjoe171- Actually glad you posted this up. Hit me pretty hard. My son has weekly bruises and road rash from his bmx bike and never wears a helmet. When he and his friend decide to jump off the loading dock and go 'muddin' I'm gonna make them wear their helmets now. Onnie is safe on a trike but has too many close calls now with the bmx bike, thanks for opening my eyes.- Robby.----Just as I was typing this Onnie called, wrecked bad on his bmx, I told he and his buddy helmets from now on.
