If that carb kit doesn't fix the issue you are having you can get a new carb on eBay for your Big Red for around $30. They're not oem but they work well in my experience and I won't bother trying to rebuild a 25+ year old carb again if I can get a new one. A rebuild didn't fix the issue I was having

thanks oscar for the tip ill check ya site out... an once again mike thx... big help so far!!! rdslz24 i seen those on ebay was weary but i think im going to buy one as a back up.. wouldnt hurt.. for sure.... i have already purchased the kit ,which im going to tear into an learn it so if anything happens ill have a spare lol.. i work on my own harley an do aight so with the help of you guys im sure im in good hands... i really appreciate the help an the pointing to which direction i need to go.

my issues with the trike are these...
    (a) trike has to run on full choke to run ..
    (b) the original owner has welded a big ole flat washer to the header an tack welded it to the frame to hold it kinda over the exhaust port... which we all know is not good.. period..
    (c) they also tack wwelded the damn gear shifter to the shifter rod or whatever its called... an ya know that just makes me ill.. lol lol
    (d) headlight isnt working not sure why havent gotten that far.
    (e) no brakes period.... front cable is missing rear as well...
my main concern is obviously the exhaust an carb first. then shifter an headlight an brakes an then from there.
    thanks again everyone...!!!

If you're interested I have a nice shifter shaft and shift lever you can have for cheap. I had a 185s with the shifter welded on as well

$10 shipped. It's not that big of job. You don't have to split the cases. If I remember correctly the clutch has to come off and possibly the oil pump and rotor and then the shaft can be pulled out from the right side. You would have to cut the welded end off of course. You can see the diagram in chapter 8 of the service manual.
