    200 autox swap stator question

I have a 1985 200s motor I am wanting to put in my 1985 200x frame untill I can get the X motor rebuilt. The problem I see is with the stator. 200S has 3 wires 200X only appears to have 2. The motor was out of the X when I got it, so I have no clue if one of the wires came up missing or was never there. Any suggestions, pointers, or advice?

P.S. I have no manuals yet

There are manuals in the 'world class help' section at the beginning of trikesylvania.

Wire diagrams are somewhere too, maybe on the front home page.

I have an auto x and an 's' but they're a walk in the snow to go look at.

I can check later today but you'll prob see a diagram before I get out there.

Generally, there is a wire from the lighting coil and one from the ignition coil coming out from the flywheel area.
3rd wire? I should know this. (sorry)

I have already do the swap.If I remember correctly(10 year ago)...

200x have 2 wire,1 from the exciter coil, the other from the lightning coil. The lightning coil have 2 wire on it,one go out of the motor, the other is grounded directly inside the cover
The difference with the 200s is that the ground wire of the lightning coil is not grounded in the cover, the wire is in the harness coming out the cover
If my memory is good, the black/red wire is from the exciting coil and will connect differcty for the 200x harness.
Ground one the the other wire to the frame, and connect the other to 200x harness.

Thanks guys I closed the thread the other day because I decided not to do the swap. I opened it back because now I am going to go ahead with it (I simply must ride this suspended trike). I found the wiring diagrams, and got it under my hat how. Ill have to put a different connector on the yellow and Dark green wire, but thats ok I am going to do this temporarily till I get to X motor going. God only knows when that will be LOL Thanks for the help guys Ill put some pics up when I get started putting it together.

Awesome, thanks Mike. Thatdont look too bad. I didnt even think about the brake lever and shifter. They dont look too hard to modify for a temporary conversion.

I am making an AutoX this summer for my fiance to ride and I was just going try to use a hydraulic clutch lever off a Goldwing to operate the rear brakes with a hand lever since I don't have a welder and it will make it easier for people to learn on with 2 hand brakes. I am pretty sure you could use the hydraulic splitter from a GL and have rear foot and hand brakes. The GL linked the front and rear brakes together but it seems like you could have both foot and hand brakes on a 200X using some of the GL's parts.

Well the S motor is in X frame and it runs!!!! I have to do a little work on the rear brake pedal, and shifter lever. then take it for a ride. The only problems I ran into is the carb. The engine idles erratically. It revs way up and then will idle down and die. I am thinking maybe the slide is sticking. Ill have a look at that later today.

edit: Bought one of the knockoffs off of ebay after reading good things about them.

Now for a couple more questions. The kill switch doesnt kill the engine. Does the green with off the stator need to be grounded for this to happen? The lights wont even try to light up.

Edit: I ASS U ME d that the green wire was grounded in more than one location of the X it is not. As soon as the wife gets home to watch the kid I get to go out in the garage and play.

in my sig is a link to the factory manuals. t contains a wiring diagram. you can use it to determine what is needed. most people also install the 200s power switch.

Yes sir I have been using your link for a couple of weeks, and I want to say thanks for putting it there for all of us to use. The problem is in my headlight bucket I think. the green wire it not connected to anything. I am currently downloading the manual again.

yea there shopudl be a green on the main harness. it shoudl have multiple input holes. but yea that's a ground wire.
If it was a chinese bike, that would be a power wire. they like ti use green for power for some reaosn. lol

There is a green and a tan wire that have the single push connectors, but nothing was plugged in to them. I didnt see anything on the wiring diagram about them either. I put a section of wire in the green one. I was going to set the kill switch to off and pull it over to get it running, then touch the new wire to the frame to see if that kills it. Well I pulled the recoil and the pawls wouldnt engage. Ill work on it more tomorrow. Time for a beer or 12
