    yamaha 225's ????

what year was the blue 225dr offered?? i may go peak at one in the am. price is cheap, just wondering if there is anything you could point out to check on it that i may overlook. supposedly runs and rides, thats about all i know. i always liked the way the looked, how do they ride, and handle compared to say a 200s, or 200es??

The N and S are year designators, that's all.

The 86 has better front forks, not sure what the other differences are, besides the decals.

You would be better off comparing the DR to a 250sx. Both shaft drive, reverse, electric start, full suspension.

The DR has a recoil backup (no kicker) and a rear disc brake.

for some reason I keep thinking there was an 84 model as well will have to check my frame might have it confused with my 200 though, one thing to be weary of is the cdi is different than the dx, and alot more expensive if it goes out

Rory, take a look at the foot peg bolt holes in the frame.. if it looks like the pegs are sagging, they probably are... i've had pegs break off..... i've also seen alot of axles bent, there are out there still but wont come cheap. muffler internales rattle loose... battery cover? alot of 225's running around with no cover on the battery. swinger pivot bearings? axle bearings? the typical old trike issues....

my black 225 that i had at icefest is an 86 drs... i never seen a blue 86 but that doesnt mean their isnt one. definetly a blue 85 dr, and i think blue dx in 84.

as far as handling,,,,, they like to wheelie... i think a little axle spacing in the rear is a good thing also. suspension is ok for a trail bike, you wont be hitting any motocross style jumps though...... hope this helps.......

sounds to me like you made the right choice......... you can sink a ton of coin into these old yami's.... running or not and this coming from a yamaha fan, not worth the $150.00 you offered........ too many times i've seen these on ebay or craigslist for way more than they are worth......
