85 125m was running fine, died, now it has no spark....

Hey guys. I am new to any 3 wheeler forum, I have always been able to fix these things without help haha.

I got this 85 125m off a kid at school, he had been sunk underwater, which i do with my 200s on a daily basis so i knew it needed nothing but a carb clean/tank clean etc.

So i clean carb, new plug and it fires right up. runs like a champ all day, idles great, good throttle response, no smoke, nothing wrong with it

I leave it idling to go in the house, as i am walking away i hear it die from an idle...go to restart and NOTHING, no spark at all using different plugs and even a spark tester.

I am running it without the battery as the starter is shot, I turn the key on, pull it , and AS I pull it the neutral light lights up like normal, but has no spark.

I'm leaning towards the coil, maybe?

I have "above average" mechanical know-how, and a really good voltage tester with all the bells and whistles, so tell me what to start testing.

Thanks guys. Wanna get my little 125 running again!

stator then cdi. no good test for a cdi other than swapping with a known good one. water in the flywheelcover? just went through that and had to replace the stator

Here's an idea: You know that little cover on the top end that says CDI? Take that off, and make sure the pulse gen is alright and the little key hasn't broke, come off, anything. That happened to me once and it took me FOREVER to figure out to look there.
This is my trike. There are many like it but this one is mine. My trike is my best friend, and it is my life. I must master it as I must master myself. My trike without me is useless. Without my trike, I am useless. I must ride my trike true. My trike and I know that what counts is not the amount of miles we ride, but the time we ride together. My trike is human in it's own ways, therefore I will learn it as my brother. I will learn it's weaknesses, it's strengths, it's parts, and it's soul.

    Thanks for the fast responses

I already took that CDI cover off a few days ago. checked everything, the magnet/surface and all that are very very close, and It spins fine (key is good)

I just don't know what could have failed so rapidly as it was running, I'm thinking it's the stator or it's wiring.

I Just started reading all that info up there ^^, looks like i got alot of testing to do. Hopefully i dont have to pin any wires or peel insulation back,

The pulse Generator and rotor gap looks pretty good, but i will check it with feeler gauges tomorrow.
