    pod filter on a 250r

hi , does anyone run a pod filter right off the carb? if so how do you make it fit around the frame and shock? i have the a rubber hose between carb and air filter and im not happy with this set up, any input would be nice......
    thanks

I ran a stock air box with mine and no lid. On my current build I am going to shoehorn the ESR open filter kit for the TRX on there. I might have to dimple the metal tube to clear the shock or I might say "F" it and go with a Marvin Shaw shock to eliminate the big body of the stock shock. I'll find all this out when I go to mock it up before it goes off to the powder coater.

CAUTION: if you plan on a marvin shaw,,,,, i am running a couple of them,, we have a 85 cu ft nitrogen bottle onboard to make adjustments easier.. if you go with the external spring model it will be almost the same diameter as stock,,,, they work great but i find i have to adjust it alot for different riders,,, primary rider on one is 140# so when i ride it i have to jack the pressure to 550psi from 300,,, so you might rethink it a little before spending the money,,, on the second note,,, i have a eliminator kit on several 250r's you have to dimple the tube to clear the frame to run naked!!!

I too have wondered this, I find it a pain in the ass gettin the airbox boot to fit the back of the carb. Especially with oversized carbs.

Thanks Kasey thats good info on the shock. The Shaw wasn't set in stone, but I would be the only rider and would go with the internal spring model set up for my weight. I was pretty sure that the TRX kit could be modified to work on the ATC, in fact I think it was one of your bikes that I saw it on in a picture a while back. Thanks man.

Ive been thinking about getting the appropriate size radiator tubing (or something stronger) and deleting the airbox then running the tubing back there and then using about a 3 inch length of aluminium or pvc to mount the hose to the pod filter. Then at the top over the shock mount where you will get friction wrap the hose in some type of polyurethane bushing or something else that you can replace as it degrades from the friction over time.

thanks, i wouldn't like to find that out after spending the money,
i was told that having an extension between air filter and carb is a big power loss, and was wondering if anyone has a filter that will fit between frame and shock without the extension

You'll be just fine with an extension. I ran the stock airbox and it had plenty of power.

Haha, stop listening to that guy. Seriously! A ten horse power loss on an engine of this size would be like running your v8 on 7 cylinders. Your talking about 1/4 loss in HP with just an extension of the filter. Not happening.

ESR would not sell i kit that reduces the hp ,,,,, there have been alot of threads on air box vs no airbox... the only thing i can say .. if you run a smaller than necessary filter if might choke it a little,,, but hell don't do that!!!
