86 Motto 4 200 for the wife?

Looking to get the wife involved in some off road riding adventures. She's not too keen on jumping on one of the three wheelers, so she said maybe if I got her a 4 wheeler. Not looking to put her on anything too nice till I'm sure she will stay with it. Can pick up a 86 YFM 200 for a reasonable price. Everything there and in decent shape just needs cleaned up. Starter is sticking but other than that its good. Anything in particular I should check out if I go to look at this machine? Past experiences with reliability? Any and all input appreciated

They're good bikes, i've got one. Brakes are the same as a blaster on the front, and kind of weak, but clean them up and keep them clean they work great. It has a compression release on the side of the head for pull starts, makes it nice. Suspension isn't anything special but works well for what it is. They are pretty tough bikes, I use mine for everything from racing around the farm to pullin my derelict cars around.

Ever have any problems with the starter? He's saying the spring is broke and its get stuck engaged to the fly wheel.

Starters,stators,rear ends. Same ol,same ol.. Check the diff good,oil color,etc. Bearings,brakes,,same ol,,,I'm guessing A new starter from DB on Ebay is less than $40. I have them if you don't find one..

Still waiting to go see it...guy answered all my questions via text messages but when I wanted to go take a look said he wasn't going to be around till Saturday. Its 1 1/2 hrs away. Looking at a few others as well. Also found out it has been "coughing" and stalling at times. Just a good carb cleaning/rebuild?

I have one. I've taken it to Bundy Hill (gravel pits) and it did ok with me on it. Not fast, but it rides nice. When I got it, I replaced the starter, rebuilt the carb and did brakes all around. Right now, it's in my garage getting a new clutch.

Its sounds like ever time you post that moto4 is making a new noise or something else is wrong with it. I would keep looking maybe try and find an older honda trx 125 or trx200sx they are bullet proof bikes and the hole family can enjoy them. There is no spring on the starter like an automobile would have. The starter clutch is on the back of the flywheel.
