Need help with cleaning real dirty baked on for years kinda plastic....

Just like the title says..I picked up a 1985 yellow Yamaha 200 and the plastic is really blackish tan on parts of the fenders. I tried soap first and a little comet but didnt do much at all. I than tried clorox green in a spray bottle and it took it right of in a small spot but the plastic was roughed up where I used it. Just wandering if there is something special I can use that will not scratch or is this my only option because its been caked on too long....Thanks for reading..

Try mothers aluminum polish. It's sold in most car parts stores. Rub away!

This only works on Yammies. Razor blade, carefully, gets under that oxidation and takes it right off. Leaves you with the color that was originally there. Now it's up to you how nice you want it. Ride it,or start sanding. You can work your way right back to factory if you have that kind of time on your hands!
Please help those who cannot help themselves.

There is a few threads on here for plastic renewal. I found that plastics are different from each make and IMO the Yamahas are a happy medium. If you have access to a buffer I would recomend the razorblade trick like 007 said on real bad spots and deep scratches and then wet sand it from there. Check out some of the threads and Mr. Clean is a top notch restoration guy that has great advise if you need a referance. Good luck and take some before and after pics for us.
    Just sit back and chillaxx

Rub it with real fine steal wool like 0000 then just polish it out with mothers aluminum wheel polish. I've done many of Yamaha fenders in just of bad of shape and they will shine like new with just alittle elbow grease.

On my YT125 the oxidization was so deep and made pits in the plastic, there was no way of sanding it all out smooth. If you were to sand it out the plastic would be very thin lol. I just used a very hot pressure washer/steam cleaner and blasted it til it was at least yellow again. Still looks like crap though.

no need to clear coat it. Once you get it back to original color just take care of it, it wont fade again if you take care of it.
