learned alot on this one, it is my first total rebuild, but I now have 5 trikes so more rebuilds to come, if you notice right behind it is another 85 200x waiting to be done, the sand blasting setup I have has been really nice and I will have a powder setup very shortly which Will make the next build way better in my oppinion also after some practice I am starting to get good at polishing, all said within 6 months I garantee this one will be back apart getting powdered

installed everything else needed to start her up and she started right up and sounded sweet with the supertrap, but when I was tightening the head pipe on one of the studs broke off flush with the cylinder so now I get to pull the engine back out and drill out the stud with a reverse thread bit and hopefully it will catch and screw the bolt out so I don't have to retap or use a helicoil well wish me luck.....always 2 steps forward one step back but hey everytime I hit a snag I learn some thing, also on a side not it was running rich a bit and backfireing with the new exhaust setup but I can adjust that by moving the throtle up a notch or two on the needle right? also I am having a hard time finding reverse threaded bits in the small town I live in (I was actually told by some idiot they don't exist) can I use an extractor? I have heard bad things but since the bolt isn't rusted in shouldn't it probebly work? because I can get an extractor set

I have a set from canadian tire that work great. They have saved me a lot of work ,a few times. They sell the drill bit style for extracting screws, bolts etc. and the socket style for removing nuts and anything they will bite onto. I love them , for all the abuse I've put them through I've only broken one bit ,well worth the money

Got the bolt out, but it wasn't easy but at least I still have threads left, should be good to go, anyone have any advice about the running rich and backfiring problem, like I said I will try to fix it by lowering the needle and if that doesn't work I can step the main jet down from the 110 I think is in there to the 108 I think I have, but any other idea's

The stupid bolt extractor broke in the bolt I knew I shouldn't have used it in this case, but it worked out more or less in the end

Looks great! I'm at about the same stage with my '85 build. Decided to go with a Douglas/ITP Holeshot combo for rollers rather than stock, though. Keep it coming!

thanks qdude I should have some finished pics of her tonight or tommorrow minus the new red fork boots I bought and the nice oem fenders that I am waiting on with no cracks, but then I can add pics from every stage of the build I have them all just never posted them also I do regret the fact that I didn't powder this build as it hasen't even been rode yet and I have a bunch of chips to fix, oh well by the time I do my other x build I will have my powder set up and it will be done right, and more then likely this one taken apart and done over too, so I guess it is good enough for now, it was pretty rought when I drove it and took 30 kicks to get her going no it satrts on one or two kicks, it will be a nice rider

Not to divert the original topic, but I'd like to hear what you went through to get it started the first time. This is my VERY first build, both of an ATC and any sort of small engine. Anxious as hell as to what's gonna happen when I finally get to the point of trying to kick it over. I'm confident in the timing and the valve adjustment, the carb is a major question mark. Advice?
