New Outsu H-Traks for my 250R

I was picking up a truck radiator from bkm a few weeks ago and we got onto the subject of 3-wheelers, imagine that. I need some rear tires for my 250R. They are still originals, bald and one leaks down in a few hours so the bike really isn't that usable like that. I had been meaning to get some OE Dunlops but never got around to it. With in the last year or so Dennis Kirk ran out of them and the prices skyrocketed on ebay. I missed out. Bkm told me the H-Traks were still available from Service Honda and cheap. I odered them up but received a call from them a few hours later that they can no longer ship tires because they are hazardous. WTF. So I odered them up from Dillon Brothers Honda. They currently also have 10% so that put them within like 60 cents of the Service Honda price. I paid under $140 shipped for the pair.
I had messed with mounting and dismounting ATV tires in the past and found it to be nearly impossible. lol. My cousin has had them done at a local Honda dealer and AG / Truck tire shop and it took each place over an hour to do 2 tires!
I decided to get some ideas from youtube and give it a try. It went great. It was well under an hour start to finish I can tell you that. I broke the beads by driving up on the tire with a truck, I still had to help them along with a rubber mallet, unreal. The tires easily dismounted with tire spoons and a rubber mallet, using soap and water for lubricant. They went back on super easy. I didn't even use any tools what so ever to mount the second one.
Don't mind the extreme dirt on the bike but here some pics. I absolutely love it.

Looks great. I hate dismounting atv tires. Especially ones that have been on the wheels for 20+ years.

That's exactly how I break the beads.

I just bought a pair of these from BikeBandit for my 350x project. Both mounted with no tire irons. I love that. I hate using irons on my aluminum rims.



They are almost identical to the Dunlops on my 250R

I also use that method.I use a metal car ramp and a plank.Some pop no prob. Others you have to use a or mallet. Sometimes you can back up turn the tire a quarter turn and repeat.Works for car tires as well.

My uncle has an all manual automotive tire changer / bead breaker. I've used it a lot and it works great but it won't touch an ATV bead. This method works great. And I did it all by myself which makes it take longer since I've gotta jump in and out of the truck to monitor and move things around.
They are 20x10x9. I'm not sure what you mean by P/V or does it just say that on the sidewall? Either way its the OE 1986 ATC250R tire. Here's where I got them. http://www.powersportspro.com/pages/.../42710-HB9-003 Honda part number 42710-HB9-003. I highly recommend them for 250R's and 350X's. Not only are they period correct they are about the cheapest 20x10x9 I've ever seen! You can't go wrong.

how do you like the 300% mark up on http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-20-X-10-X-...item27c53ca517 these babies .Always check before you buy there are alot of scammers out there. at least they will ship them for free how good of them. I got some at my local honda for 50 bucks apiece but there is no shipping fee if you get them from your local honda dealer but you have to pay sales tax.

They are P/V 701s. I saw those on ebay. I've seen the Dunlops for like $600 buy it now. WTF.

The 1985 dunlaps are discontinued so thats probably not that bad of a price .

Thanks! And I was kind of thinking the same on the front but at least it holds air!
What is everyone doing for a front tire? I'd like a stock 1985 or 86 ATC250R tire if possible. Or any other OE front. Is anything still available?

hard pressed to find an oe tire for the r and x these days, at a reasonable price anyway. options are limited on the 11 inch tires. best bet is to watch ebay, i see alot of nice used oem front tires with rims go for reasonable price!

I have a whole collection of front tires:
both 200X's have Chen Shins I bought to replace original Ohtsu beyond salvage
85 350X came with a Nankang that has knobbies and holds air so it's getting used. I don't think these are available any longer.
86 350X and the spare 86 rim have original Ohtsu on them. They are tired.
85 250R came with a Front Max on it because the PO did not want to pay the big $$ for an unattainable OEM Dunlop. He put OEM Dunlops on the rear.

I've only actually ridden with the Front Max and the Chen Shins. The both seem fine. If I have to buy one for the 86 350X, it will be the cheapest available at the time (Chen Shin or Front Max)
