    Hi Everybody!

Good to be here! Rebuilding my 85 ATC 250R and thought I better get my butt on a forum and say hey and make sure I am doing everything right. I bought the ATC brand new in 85 and rode it hard for about 6 years and it has been sitting ever since. Meant to go through it long ago but life kinda got in the way. I am half way home now and I would like some help getting to the end result and would also like to contribute in any way I can. I have been riding my CRF450R every weekend here in Southern California but the high heat is coming and the Pismo Dunes are sounding like a good way to beat that heat. Then of course there is nothing quite like Glamis at Thanksgiving. Just a quick whoiam and I truly hope all is well with everyone here!!

Here are some before and after pics. Just started the assembly. Finally got my brand new forks, axle, spacers, and boots after a long wait. Everything on the frame so far is original. Amazing what cleans up in the kitchen sink with a sponge, Dawn, and Simple Green.

Got my rads painted and my tank sanded and polished today. Both came out exceptionally well. Not the best pic though

I have a similar thing with my Tecate-3 I bought a year old in '86 and rode regular til '92 then last rode 2001 when my master cylinder on the rear brake failed and has been stored in my parents garage since (and time has flown on by, lol). I'm currently going through the internal debate of 'do I fix it up, or do I sell it'....?? Kinda leaning to selling now since I no longer know anyone else that has a 2-stroke to go ride with. Good luck with your restoration.

Yes I just cleaned them in the sink with soapy water and then sanded the top/bottom a little bit, maybe 7-8 minutes for both. Then I cleaned them again and blew them off with compressed air. Cleaned the surface one more time with just a little lacquer thinner and then sprayed them inside a cardboard box as my makeshift spray booth lol.

I used Rust-Oleum Specialty High Heat Ultra (bbq paint) from Home Depot for $6.95 a can here in California. I masked off the fins and gave them a few light coats as to much and it will fail. Then I removed the masking and put one real light coat across the fins, just enough to clean em up. The came out really good. The were really easy to mask. Just some blue painters tape and a couple of sheets of paper out of my printer.

I haven't had much time as of late to work on it and I was also waiting for some things to be powder coated. I spent a Saturday building it up from the frame. The wheels are temp just to get it rolling. The motor will be done just as soon as I can find time to get the cylinder ported. Pretty happy with it so far

Very nice build. Looks excellent. I've begun acquiring parts to refresh my 250sx. Hopefully it turns out as rad as yours.

I ordered new OEM shrouds as the Maier's just aren't the right color. Cylinder is being ported now and should be done next week. Probably going to order the CR250 igntion and get some aftermarket lights. I can get the Cyclops Penatrator 610 with a nice discount.

    Thanks everyone!
