Mike, are you going to leave this baby as is or are you going to try and give it a little more ooomph (cylinder boring, piston, reeds, etc)?

There are some goodies available, but nothing like what once existed. Reeds of course. DG Gold heads. The pipes on these were sort of custom with the frame, but there are people who are presently making custom 2 stroke pipes. Of course porting. Different fuels. The hardtail more than likely dates it pre 81 and maybe earlier. Hi Performance frames, especially the hardtail would fit many a different powerplant. They sort of used one basic frame and just used different engine mounts to fit different engines in the basic frame. There were hollow chromoly rear axles available. There were 185s axles available and the real early frames used 90/110 rear axles. The rear brakes could vary depending on the year of the frame as well. My suspension r5/rd trike frame uses the rd front disc brake as the rear brake. Most didn't have a front brake. I've seen custom solid front ends as well as Hi Performances' own front suspension frame set up as well as Honda atc front ends adopted for use as well. Usually takes atc90 based rear fenders and mounts, but often used a fiberglass aftermarket rear fender. Have seen atc90 fiberglass copy rear fenders and aftermarket "wide" rear fenders as well as homemade fiberglass rear fenders. Paint jobs were wide open and ran the gamut from plain to downright show worthy. These frames were the early hot rods of the sand.

Thanks!!! I will be in touch!!

Spent a little time last night doing some work. It is in fact an RD400, and it has reeds. Set it next to a 70 and a 250r for size and height comparison.

Check this out on SLO c-list!! Appears to have been built with RD400 frame and not Hi Perf frame.

That is pretty awesome. Wonder why they went with such a small kicker as compared to yours? I would think that would suck to start unless its electric and that's just a backup.

Nice score! I've always loved the sound of the RD. My Dad still has his first Tricky Dick's conversion at his shop which is a RD350. It's on my long list of things to restore.
