The crated R I had went to a collector in NY.
Bill, no huge ebay fee's were collected on the final sale due to it being listed as "parts"(less than $200).
Though in retrospect, I wish I'd not listed it like that (as parts). It sold for a bit over $30k. The selling auction can still be searched and viewed (now archived), by using key words "cated ATC 250R" under completed auctions.
I agree with Bryan. Too many people speak without backing there words here. I try to show pics with most ideas/issues I discuss on these forums. Seeing is believing.

Met some guy on the trails a few months ago who said back in the 80's him and his buddies would steal crates of new bikes off the trains delivering them to the dealers. Said they would put em together and trash the crap out of them. All kinds of trikes and dirt bikes.

Having ruined all the silver coins my grandmother left me by polishing them I know I could never be trusted to be left alone with that dusty Tri-Z. I’d have it out, washed assembled and devalued in less than a day. Thank God someone with self-control owns it!

I am sure there are more out there, they are just hiding. I am into vintage snowmobiles and have a bussiness mainly buying and selling, restoring, and parts for vintage sleds and bikes, I do alot of trikes also. I have been duing this for over 20 years now. I just sold a proto type one of one John Deere that was not supposed to exist. But getting to things still in crate. I am not sure on the details, but 11 or 12 Kawasaki Snowmobiles in there shipping crates have just been purchased by one of the snowmobile musems by Eagle River. They are very dirty and some were even ridden and used as test sleds, and then taken back apart and put back in there crate. These were all found in a warehouse out west somewhere. the sleds are all in the crates yet and they built crates around the factory crates to ship them to WI. They are currently in a warehouse around madison waiting to be brought to eagle river, as they needed to build a bigger building for them.
Rebuilding and riding trikes everyday and lovin every minute.

I know of them. Less than a decade ago,,a John Deere dealer down the road from here still had a JDX-8 on the 3rd shelf up in the warehouse,,My Dad was gonna buy it in 1984,,but very smartly opted for a 1983 Yamaha Excel 3. Anyhow,it was there for the taking for around $600. Dusty?? Ohh yes.. But never fueled,,ohh crap,,,I don't have pics,,so it was a dream. Never happened..! Pipleline,,any interest in NOS Cat stuff,,mid 60's thru ?? 81? Mostly NOS and used CDI's,and coils for the 4 plug Tigers. Some blue dashes..Chains and sprockets,,etc.. Some taillights. I've heard this is a HUGE market,,but never looked into it.
Please help those who cannot help themselves.

ALWAYS buying Museum quality machines,3 and 4 wheels. And any and ALL ,NOS parts,EVERY brand.

I am turning my PM's Off,my Email is billsracing@hotmail.com,put 3WW in the subject. Thanx!

A crated trike is like a 100 year old collectable bottle of wine. Great to look at, fun to talk about, but if you like to drink or ride neither will make for a good weekend.

I take that as a shot directly over my bow so lets compare apples to apples here Bill and I didn't know this debate has moved into all things motorized. I also know of a sh!t ton of stand up jet ski's and wave runners that are still in the crates. Wanna know why, because just like a sled they have a very limited environment that they can be used in. It doesn't snow all year round just like there isn't water everywhere so the demand is super low for these machines. Unlike three wheeler's that were bought and sold all over the damn world. So I guess because there are sleds and ski's still laying around in the crates that must equate to all things with an engine?

I never called you a liar and welcomed the revealing of these bikes that you claimed to exist. But then you yourself said that you have never laid eyes on them personally. Sorry if I'm a guy who doesn't go around counting my chickens before they hatch.

I'll just say this and then I'm done. Andy put his money where his mouth was and until somebody steps up like he did this is a sh!t thread as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not having a debate Bryan. I am different. Maybe an hole? Maybe,,easy going,Whatever I am. I've seen it here a million times. You are,I guess ,,fair? I suck at words!! When " kids" or anyone I feel is just running their mouth talk, about ANYTHING,,Including crated 3 wheelers. I,,,,Ignore it,,and move on. You,Fabio,,others,,,Debate,,,try to talk sense into them.. Go down to their level if you will. I don't. I can't, I won't. I move on and it's water off my back. I just PITY anyone that has to see pics and evidence to agree that something happened. Much the way I pity myself for not taking pics of our farming days,,Myself,Dad,Mom,my Brother,,the equipment we had etc.. We do pretty well w the kids now,and I do wish Every day of my life was documented,,but it's not. You went on and on about ,,WHY a Big Red,,directly questioning me. Well,it didn't bother me,,and maybe?? you hit fairly close as to the reason these machines are where they are. But,,I aint saying ! Not yet. So,you'll remain humble,I'll remain hopeful, and I've still got your back man !

Yes, it would be cool for some more to pop up. However, all these stupid "Crate" Threads and "1987 250r/350x" threads do is get people all butt-hurt and bent out of shape. Bill, I hope you are correct, and there are in fact more out there.
Keep on Triking!!!! "I am the NIGHT RIDER!!!"
