    Hey guy's,
Thanks for all the input and comments so far. As you know, I do know enough to know it's a cool find with some really cool/desirable parts on it. So I appreciate you giving me your approx. valuation on some of the parts - that's helpful and near what I have calculated in my mind.
I'm almost equally torn on what to do with it if I buy it - do I keep it or part it out? I understand the value is in the parts and not the complete bike, but in the same mouthful, it's so cool as is that I really hate to part it out. I don't know -at the end of the day I feel repsonsible for at least getting it my hands and then contempating for a bit on what to do. If I don't buy it he's going to end up selling it to some toolbag that has no idea what it is and everything is gone for good/destroyed.
Couple of items that weren't addressed -
Any idea on the blue short track shrouds?
Could any of the axles be off of a quad? I beleive there was mention of the guy owning a quad at one point.
Is the durablue axle (nice new looking one) for an 86R? What is it and the durablue hubs worth?
How about the headlight shroud - any value. Like I stated - it has some sort of dual toggles on the top for high/low. Is that normal or slightly moded?
What about the engine and pipes - assuming a part out what would the total package of the motor and 2 pipes be worth?
Much appreciated. Gonna make a decision here in the next few days. I'll keep you posted.

This thing hasnt been advertised for sale around here in washington. If it was it would sell. The high price is going to keep it from people who will want to make a buck on it and part it out or flip it. This thing should go to a collector or someone that will restore it. Paper work that shows what the bike was raced in will help the value even if its not a big name guy but not a huge amount. By the time you restored it, it would probably be cheaper than buying a stock R and restoring it and buying the parts it has on it.

Blue shrouds if there plastic and not fiberglass prolly a older plastic company prolly couple hundred maybe Those are a wild card
The durablue axle looks like a newer one. Price them they are still being made
The headlight is another wild card. You mentioned that it had toggle switches installed in the top of it is that true? If they arent the light would bring 1-200 on eBay i believe
An F-16 turned the after burners on and banked HARD over my house, I ran outside grabbed my Bud Light and Yelled as loud as I could................

In picture #3 of post #16 you can see the switches, they are the metal knob style ones, blue shrouds are probably UFO ones, they are the only company that I know to have used that blue mate color and not inscribe anything on their parts.

awsome find! Not positive but the oem gold axle may be for an 84 ?? they had the double large locknut setup right? I bet someone would pay big bucks for those race fenders. especially if they are uncracked. they are bad!

So, with some good fortune, a good idea and a willing owner this 250R and parts became mine over the weekend. Couldn't be more excited! Worked out a win/win trade with the previous owner. Turns out he wanted a 200x 4 stroke more than he wanted the 2 stroke 250r - and I had just happened to have one that I was willing to part with (search 200x racer to see photos of the trade machine). It wasn't just any 200x though - it was a very nice Curtis Sparks motor, Westcoast swinger, DB axle, WB Shock, etc. 200x. So a race replica if you will. He actually may have got the better deal since the X runs and the R doesn't. However the R has ridiculous potential...
Both me and the old R owner we're obviously happy with the deal so it was made - bike for bike and few bucks cash.
Now I have another project that I wasn't anticipating - and a Honda, what! I was really just looking to sell stuff off (the 200x) to finish my tecate project, now I'm back in with a complete R to renovate. Oh well, I guess it's a good problem to have...
I may have a few R parts that I can sell to help fund this deal and the upcoming renovation - Pm me with any thoughts after viewing the photos at the beginning of the thread. It'll be restored to race condition and not OEM, so those extra parts are able to be dealt.
Anyway, thought you all might be interested to know that this R will at some point be sitting next to the sickest 86 tecate yet built - to be unveiled real soon...
    Thanks for looking

Do a search for 200x Racer - should pop up the thread with photos. It was a sweet little trike, so all in all the trade was very fair for both parties. A win/win in my opinion - we both got what we wanted. Tho the 200x was truly sweet, it just wasn't enough to pull my 225 lbs. around with any authority - so the X for the R was logical.
