    Well, it starts.. '85 ATC250r resto-mod

Well, I wheeled Ol' Betsy into the garage for the preliminary evaluation and parts list compilation. This the very 250r I had back when I was in high school in the mid '90's. Besides the obvious, it will be getting a DB or LSR +4 axle, twin row carrier, 350x rims all around, and eventually I would like to get the stock cylinder massaged by either BDT or C-Leigh racing. I already have a descent start with things like exhaust (Full FMF Fatty system), rims, almost NOS OEM swingarm. Today was just the day I sat down with a pen and paper and compiled my list of parts. I will likely be ordering my first wave of parts in early January and will probably see if I can do business right here with 3WW members for as many of the parts as I can.

Here is a pic of how she sits now. I can't wait to bring her back to life!!

I am so used to my 350r being 52" wide, this R looks hideously narrow to me with it's stock width!

I plan to. The next updates won't be coming up till January when I get my annual bonus and get the first round of parts in. Today was just step 1.....

    Thanks!

I am gonna keep an eye out on this also.

I have no experience with BDT, but I understand they do alot of work for people apparently rather well. I just wanted to give you an idea or another option..If you have a stock jug you want played with....Jason Hall on here can work some sick magic with R porting. I have one of his jugs that will flat out run right with big bores, and eat most 450's..He knows how to get some HP out of em..I will never sell it, and have a second on the way. I have had people tell me they think its a 295..Its not..Just a 250 R.
Here is where my long useless list of stuff nobody cares about should go...

Thanks for the tip Mosh. I actually have an '86-'87 cylinder that I am told has an oversized sleeve in it that is capable of being bored to 295cc on a stock crank.... When compared to my other stock cylinder you can easily see that the sleev on the gray cylinder is MUCH thicker. I'm thinking getting that cylinder ported and bored to 70mm could be fun.

I don't know if I will have enough in the build budget this go-round to get porting done, but it's on the list. I still have a great running .050 over stock cylinder thats ready to run. What is Jason's member name here? I am interested in what he charges for porting work for future refence. Never know, depending on what deals I can find for the parts I need just to get her up and running and rideable, I may just be able to get some porting done this time around. This is really going to be a 2 winter project. Get it running this winter. Ride it next summer. Then strip it back down and make it pretty with a PCed frame and some new OEM style plastic. I hear-tell my old Maier Low-pros are kind of a novelty these days?? I kinda like the OEM profile a little better anyways...

    Will do BKM.

Husky: I don't do alot of woods riding on my R. 90% of my riding is on gravel roads wide enough for automotive traffic. Lots of long straights and sweeping turns. It's alot of fun!
