Coming along great man! I like the z400 master too, looks like it belongs there. Can't wait to see it finished up
SHE LIVES!!
Started checking the electrical and realized that I must have been color blind the day I hooked the engine harness to the main harness... I reversed to 2 single wires and hooked them up opposite somehow.
Then I was having some trouble with the carb overflowing. After checking the float and messing around with it several times I ended up swapping the float from a PE carb I had laying around into it. Problem solved.
So, wiring connected correctly, carb not overflowing, tank re-installed and wammo! Started on 2nd kick like a Honda should!![]()
I wasn't sure where to begin with jetting. It has a full FMF Fatty exhaust, dual stage reeds and a PWK36. I started with a 160 main and a 48 pilot so I could be sure it was safely rich.. And it was. Didn't want to rev out without alot of blubbering.
Dropped to a 152 main, left the pilot at 48 and it's much more crisp while still showing signs of being safely rich for breaking in the new rings and honed cylinder.
So, just waiting for the remaining few items and for spring to get here so I can break it in and jet it in...
But SO HAPPY SHE'S ALIVE ONCE AGAIN!![]()
Last time I saw this R run was probably back in about 1998. Good to have her back among the living.![]()

Made a couple more jetting adjustments today. Went to a 160 main, and 45 pilot. I think I still need to go leaner on the pilot because the idle speed screw is all the way in, air screw is out over 3 turns and it will idle, albeit very slow. Almost too slow. I have to order a couple more pilot jets as the 45 is as lean as I have...
SO! Ol' Besty propelled herself at blazing speed under her own power for the first time in YEARS today! My driveway and backyard is pretty tore up now! HA! I think the 160 is pretty close to right for it, but she still seems too rich on the low side.
SOOOOO happy I finally got a little test ride in! I am just waiting for my new Durablue anit-fade axle lock, but thats a small thing....
Next time I get it out, I'll see if the Mrs. can take some vid and I'll post it up......
Thanks again to Mr.Clean, Ceasarthethird, PCS, for the great deals on the parts I needed. And also to those who gave advice along the way. You guys ROCK!

Had a get-together at my parents house today. It was kind of a delayed easter get together for all of our kids.
My 2 brothers and I spent the first part of the day dumping and skidding next years firewood. We got quite a bit of wood on the ground, it was a productive day.
But then came the fun! I talked my brother Josh into bringing his '86 350x with him, my other brother Jon keeps his '86 350x at Mom and Dad's place, and of course I brought the Ol' R for a little bit a real riding where I could run it a bit.
We made some more adjustments and got some quality brother time in on our trikes for the first time in quite a long time.
The R is running real good and everything is ops-checking well. No leaks, not trouble of any kind really.
Anyway, on a couple occasions today, we lined up and posed all 3 for a couple pictures.
In the first 2 pics, Jon's X is on the left, and Josh's on the right.
They are both members, but rarely get on. Jon does from time to time, Josh hasn't been on in so long he doesn't remember his sign-in info! LOL
