    Opinions on 1984 Kawasaki KLT250

While at the Chiropractor today me and the Doc get on the subject of Trikes. He tells me that he has a 84 KLT 250 that is black with orange decals and front and rear racks. He says his father in law bought it new and it has 600 miles on it. Its been garaged its whole life and he thinks it might even have the original tires on it. He says the plastics have no cracks in them and its in really good shape, original papers, and so on. He wants $500 for it.

I have been wanting to get a utility bike for the house and had my heart set on a Big Red 200 or 250 ES, but I'm having a hard time finding a decent one within my price range.

The one thing that has me turned off is the manual clutch. I don't want to have to work while I'm working.

So what do those that have ridden or owned them think of the machines?

I think they are a good work horse. Hard tail though. Notorious for wiring issues. If it is in nice shape that is a ballpark
    Price.

We have a couple, they are good work horses, some have a locking rear end that can really make a difference when making tight turns. If it's in as good shape as your saying probably worth the $500. Not to many of them around.

Pretty cool bikes. Like somebody above said, the locking diff is pretty cool.
But yeah, the electrical systems are a never ending nightmare. If the cdi box is shot, then just walk away.(hardish to find + $$$)
Also, some had fuel pump issues, you want one with an elec. pump.
If it's in good shape and running, $500 is a pretty good price.
If it needs work...save your money for something that will be cheaper/easier to fix (big red)
The manual clutch isn't too bad, only really a pain once your stuck and trying to walk it out of a hole.

I think unless I can get it for next to nothing I'm going to pass. I don't want to have to hunt down parts for a bike that I will be using regularly and I really don't feel like messing with a manual clutch utility bike. I'll wait to see it, because he's supposed to get me some pics in the near future. Thanks for the replies guys.

A manual clutch on a worker?? Get out of town. Just be patient, one will pop up. I am still looking for you. I really doubt your going to find a 250es for $500 in nice shape but the 200es will def show up for around $500

I know, I thought he was pulling my leg when he told me it had a hand clutch. Truth be told I kinda want a 200es more than a 250es. I like the thought of a dual range tranny.

I have a nice set of 200es fenders if you find a runner that needs them.
