200X carb choices

hi i have a 200x with a modified big red motor in it - stage 4 webcam - 10.25 comp piston - ported - dg full exhaust - k&n filter w no lid on box - titanium valve springs, i found a cheapo zoom zoom carb i bought off ebay but i looks low performance, is the dg 28mm carb still avail? i need a carb to match my trike.
if anybody has a used dg im interested

i wouldnt use a cheap carb, 200x or xr200 only. i think a rebuild 200x carb jetted right will work better then a junk larged who knows what your buying carb but thats just me. gotta remeber your gonne feel more dif between cams then a tiny incresement in carb.

I'm with oldskool. I won't use a cheap carb on a build. Too me it's not worth it. You've just spent good money on a piston and cam, why cheap out on the carb?

DG sells genuine 26mm Keihin carbs that bolt right up--I got one last summer. Since it is a larger carb the inside diameter of the stock manifold is a bit smaller but it works until you get a larger manifold from an XR. You may not see the carb on their new website yet but if you call they should have them. Plan on spending a little over $200. You can get the Chinese knock-offs on ebay for about 30 bucks but I understand they don't run Keihin jets and finding ones that work is a challenge. You get what you pay for.

DG's Keihin carb page. They also list a 28mm carb. There are no pics, but you could call them (866-653-1647 ), You'll want a flange mount carb unless you have a spigot mount adapter. Be sure to update this thread when you make a decision so we know how it all worked out and what carb you went with. :

I have xr cam in my 200x motor, 65.50 mm piston 10.25:1. I am going to rebuild one of my nice 200x carbs and run with that before spending $125 for a new XR200 carb...because i will not buy a used worn out carb. a stock 200x carb is what 26mm i think, just not worth the extra i think for the size of the trike.

A stock 200x carb is a 24mm. I put a 28mm mikuni and aftermarket intake and it was night and day difference. That was with a super trapp and stock cam. 10.5:1 piston. I then installed a bapp 3/4 race cam and that just sweetened the deal. I agree with the above, stay away from the cheap eBay carbs. I would vote for a 28mm mikuni or dg all day long.

Try shortline10.. He's got everything you may need and he's a very knowledgeable engine builder. Great resource to us 200x guys.

Don't be afraid to run a XR carb. If you find a good one that isn't all worn out they make a great carb, and you can run the stock boot to the air box. Mine runs great with the XR carb.


If you find a 28mm Mik. make sure you get a carb spacer to go with it.

I got this inexpensive mikuni on my 86 and it runs great with it and was easy to tune. It has a 12 to 1 piston, web cam, exhaust and some porting to the head. The intake had to be port matched to the bigger carb but it bolted right up. I also ditched the choke on it to get more flow.

I run a 28MM siphon mount round slide with a mossbarger intake. Below are some pictures.




If you want to run your stock airbox with this setup you need to run a fairly flat upper shock mounting bolt. If you are running a filter off the back of the carb you will be fine and no modifications necessary.

My bike runs so much better with a 28 than it did with a 24.

thanx for the advice, is my big red motors intake the same as the x's? i just got my box on yesterday and it seems to be off at an angle unless i put it on backwards, but it looked rigt mounting it on. also what year xr 200 carb? any year? its got a 400ex shock on it but still has plenty of room.

Not sure on the years, I know there was a few years they ran a dual carb setup on the xr's, you don't want that. Early 90's will do you just fine. I made an intke adapter that will fit but being aluminum it transferred heat back to the carb when you would shut it off.. Not good on the restart. I picked up a new XR carb spacer and everything worked out good. I shoulda took more notes when I built my 200x.

You need a 1980-83 XR200R intake manifold and a DG 27MM kehin carb (hard as hell to find...maybe call DG), that's if you want to be able to bolt the carb to the flange and still get the stock airbox.

If you don't mind using a siphon mount carb, then call sudco or search on EBAY for a 28MM Mikuni siphon style carb and then find a siphon mount intake manifold such as sandscorcher, mossbarger, etc.
