Red tecate, how rare are they???

I have been thinking about starting to look for a 84 or 85 tecate to add to my collection, I really like the look of the red ones but you don't ever seem to see any for sale. Do any of you guys know of or own one that is looking for a new home??

I think 1984 was the only year they were available. Not many produced as far as I remember. The dealer I rode for only sold one.

Here is my red 84 and they are rare. I think Kawasaki's production run in 84 was about half and half, half red and half green. They made them in 85, too, but far fewer.

Thanks guys, I really like the colour combination on that model, was it just the 84 that had the gold wheels, fork legs etc?
I would prefer to have a stock machine, OEM tires etc etc I love restoring these bikes, just don't enjoy scouring the earth or parts

Bill - There are ways and means if you ever get tired looking at it

Christph - Very nice, thanks for the pics

Yep the 84's had gold steel wheels, swinger, shock linkage, fork sliders, and front drum brakes. There were other '84 specific details that I can't remember off the top of my head. Dcreel could probably tell you every difference down to nuts and bolts.

    Hello

Both the 84 prototype and pre production I tested and the first ad were all red bikes.

Both 84 and 85 had gold rims and forks.

If you want to end up with a show bike it's better to start with one that has nice plastic.

A red 84 that runs well with better than average plastic might be around $1800.

A mint red one with nice orig tires might be around $5000.00 and finding one will be extremely hard and take a long time.

Thanks for the input guys, 90% of my bikes are purely for show and some have never even been started (by me), so I would be looking for something that was pretty much 100% complete. I don't mind if I have to source an OEM exhaust or any of the other relatively easy parts to find, just don't want to have to be sanding fenders etc etc
I doubt what I am looking for will ever show up in any classified add so I am just letting it be known that if the right bike were to become available then I would be interested.

    Hello

Well the question at this point might be, are you willing to spend $2000.00-$5000.00 for one over the phone based on photos alone plus shipping and import tax to the UK?

The Tecate's as well as other models were "built" in Lincoln Nebraska to take advantage of US tax incentives. Made in the USA, lol.

    Hello

I do not know if it sold. If it was red it would possibly be more.

The 85 had silver aluminum 4/156 wheels. The 84's were gold 4x101 steel wheels.
