Question about a 250r engine

Hey all. Long story short I bought a 250r engine from the mid 80's and I can't get it to shift into reverse, I read that you hold the brake push the "R" button and down shift but there is no "R" button as I just bought the engine.
is it one of the wires coming from the engine case? if so what color wire? I can't find any info on this engine just that it's a honda 250r and it was in a mid 80's 3 wheeler. any help would be great thanks

The 250r didnt have reverse. Post up a pic of your trike and the engine you bought. Some of the ones that had reverse were the 125m, 250sx, 250es big red, not sure about any other hondas.

I don't have the trike it was out of just told that it was out of a mid 80's 250 he said it was a 250r but the engine says reverse so I don't know.

That's not a 250r, none of the honda 250 trike motors had pull start. Looks a lot more modern than a trike motor. On the right side of the case down below the brake pedal area should be a serial number, maybe take a picture and post up the number. That should help.

I have no clue what that is.. It almost looks like a trx 400 motor but its not.. I'm trying to search for you. That stamping doesn't even come up in google. Can you locate the cc's on the jug? They should be on the bottom of the jug.. that'll help out a lot. I know you say 250 but if it isn't a 250r motor whos to say its really 250cc?

Nah I don't see any markings on the jug or around the case. After the storm I will go clean it up a bit and see.
it has electric start and a recoil but everything that I've seen has kickstart which this one don't

Did you see my link? I'm almost certain thats your motor. That one may be older or newer though.

It looks just like it minus the recoil, funny to think the guy I got it from said it was from a 3 wheeler.. either someone rigged it in a 3 wheeler and then he pulled it or he's full of it. I just needed to know what it was incase I had to replace parts on it. thanks for that I been looking in the wrong area.

I don't know why my last post didn't show up but anyway yea codyrosa it looks just like it minus the recoil. It may have been rigged into an atc I don't know then pulled and sold to me? I just needed to know what I have so if I have to ever get parts for it thanks for looking I have been looking in the wrong area

86 honda trz 200sx lol I was looking at engines and found the guy here that posted that he has no spark and I'd bet 10 bucks that that's my engine
