Question about Origin of the 1987 250SX

Sorry, I'm sure this has come up before but I had a few additional questions. Was the 87 250SX ever released in the US? Next wherever it was released how interchangeable was it to previous models, mostly mechanically? Were the specs the same? Plastics interchangeable even though the 85 was totally different color scheme? Glad to be back, look forward to answers!

Yep, there are several around on the site. The looked like the 86's. I know there are other differences that the guys who own them could point out.

The differences between the 87 and previous years of SX are subtle..all the specs, major mechanical, suspension, frame, plastic were the same.

Colour scheme and some minor engineering changes.

I bought mine in Michigan, so yes they were sold here..

There are a fair number of 1987 250SX and ES around..

This is mine as I brought it home. Clean and all original!!

I'd been hoping and looking for an 87 for a couple years and was pretty excited when it showed up on CL one Sunday morning..called the guy at 7:30 and told him I was on my way with his $800 asking price.

Truth is he had it listed as an 85..even though he had the title in his possession he still did know what he had.

There were only about 1/10 the numbers of 87 to the 85 and it was a cool find..certainly more rare, but still out there just the same.

Thanks. I'll be keeping my eyes open!

Appreciate all the replies. I'll keep my eyes open. I'm in central upstate NY around the Finger Lakes. As with most, I prefer an original owner with little time than one that's been overhauled.

IDC who said what above. Yes, the US had them, they were basically 86 250SX's maybe the graphics and small other changes were made. Near nothing mechanical.....

I have one, the frame sits to rust as I run the 86 identical frame.

All the other crap, suspension/shock or otherwise big mechanical changes were done in 1986.

NO MAJOR CHANGES IN ANY CRUCIAL PARTS..............
