Feeler on an idea for the Devils Backbone hill climb idea - timed trials?

I've kind of had this idea for a few years myself, and Rob Ray (chickenhawk) said he'd be down to potentially organize and put this together with some volunteers, but does anyone like the idea or would you be interested in making the backbone into sort of a sectioned out area with a stop-watched trial down and back up? Would probably need a half dozen or so people to make this work effectively. Anyone interested in doing this or helping out, thoughts/ideas?

I would be willing to help. I just worry that making it a competition would cause someone to ride out of their ability or do something that they shouldn't do. We all know that hill climb isn't very forgiving on bodies or bikes that don't make it.

Throw a little liquid courage into the mix and someone could get hurt..
that would have to be an invite only kind of event.. meet earlier in the week and make sure they can do the backbone letting just anyone compete..

I've been going over the idea in my head for a while, and Joe and I have talked about it quite a bit. I have the course laid out in my head, and I believe I could make this fun for everyone. We talked about having 3 classes: manual clutch, auto clutch, and 125-under. The course will be designed to be made on any machine, just faster with some skill and finesse. The start would be on the hill itself at the bottom, no giant walls to climb just to get going. Just keep in mind I would like it to be fun for participants and spectators, and look cool for the film. The more helpers we have lining the track, the safer it is for rider and machine.

I'm with mike. Not a good idea if the riders have been drinking. There have been enough injuries with an unlimited amount I time to get to the top. Make it a competition and peoples balls are going to double in size just to save a couple of seconds.

I think it should only be timed on the way up the hill. Descending the backbone for time will surely end very badly for someone.

    I'm with Mik6 here.
My input is: Judge it on Style!!! Main rule is the person has to be on the machine, not the machine on the person. LOL j/k!!

Someone mentioned an invite only thing, perhaps for the first year that might be the best avenue? Kind of a middle ground? I do agree, that hill will certainly bite someone very hard that is riding above thier ability...

I repack every year! lol, only problem is I'd have to enter as a semi-auto. lol Guess I could run the clutch cable adjustment in to over ride the auto clutch.

I'd also have to say I'd agree with 'king of the downlow', but we all know 250r's are faster. I use to flog my 250 up that hill, shreded 3 tires over the years. It's become a garage queen anymore. lol

It's not another event - just an enhancement of an existing event.... Right?
