Help please. Gen 1 250R and front wheel spacers

Putting my front wheel back on and the spacing looks incorrect. To where I can't mount the brake caliper back to the fork, it's about 3mm off. I put the longer spacer on the left side and shorter on right.

The strange thing is that the service manual doesn't even mention the spacers.

Ok, I am an idiot. Just slid the wheel toward the caliper and it lined right up.

I still got this large gap on the left side. Is this normal? Do I just put the nut on and tighten till it squeezes together? Seems like a lot of space.

Yes, pull your forks together as you tighten the 4 pinch bolt clamp. I snug them and tap the fork with rubber mallot.
Just so happens I have my front tire off for a bead leak repair (again,,,,)

No 4 bolt pinch clamp on a first gen, John Just a threaded axle. And it sucks.

Both of ours have this odd spacing as well.

Short spacer on the brake side, long on the open side. That's the only way ours line up.

Thanks guys. Just tightened the nut down and it pulled the forks together. Put in a cotter pin, done. Just strange that it has that much space untightened.
