The first gen I'm throwing together is going to be done in the 84 gold colors. Has anyone found a decent match in powder or paint. Doesn't have to be dead nuts, just something the average guy wouldn't think twice about being original color.

lacquer will dry the hardest . . i dont remember if the first dupli color gold is lacquer but it may be . . the small cans of exterior color like that used to be lacquer but the epa decided that if you spray it in a plastic baggie and inhale it, it is bad for you so a some companies switched to enamel.
the gold on the air cleaner is a very good color but it is engine enamel so it is a bit soft until it gets heated to 200 degrees a few times . . krylon also has that color and krylon is, or used to be a much better paint.
i would spray Verathane or DEFT semi gloss clear lacquer over all all of them . . it will protest the finish . . it is in the paint section of home depot and it probably says "Wood Finish" on them . . It is NOT specifically a "wood finish", it is real lacquer but make sure it says lacquer somewhere on the bottle because they may polyurethane also which is not as good.
