I was never in the military and don't have the $$$ for high-end courses, so I take what I can from wherever I can. Here are a few suggestions that I use to stay sharp…
-Krav Maga- Provided you are at a legit gym, you will learn not only how to fight and win under pressure (try being pepper-sprayed then fighting 3 people or fighting multiple attackers with a fogged up gas mask on and one arm tied behind your back); but you will get motivated, in shape, tough as nails, and train with long/short guns, edged weapons, and blunt weapons. Invaluable teaching that you will always carry with you.
-MILSIM airsoft- Sounds cheesy (and sometimes can be), but I've been to many "professional" ops that are conducted like the real deal. I have learned so much about CQC/MOUT and terrain fighting that I am teaching some of my vet friends new things (flooding rooms, pie-ing corners, cover fire, communication, use of smoke, light discipline, etc). This stuff works (and many airsoft ops have courses/training before events put on by legit operators). Also hones point-and-shoot reflexes.
-Find a draw-friendly range and drill regularly- I'm fortunate to have many friends who have served and shown me techniques and drills they have learned. Best to work on rapid target acquisition, switching rapidly to varying distances, reloading, etc. Even better to drill with friends.
Not saying I'm some badass, it's just what I practice regularly.
