I agree they perform much better with some feedramp polishing. Out of the box, my Springfield's didn't like to eat anything but ball ammo. After some polishing the ramp and lapping the slide, they would run like a top but only my Para which has the built-in feed ramp on the barrel rather than on the inside of the grip frame, would routinely eat Cor-bon +Ps. The jacketed bullet has almost as little taper as a wadcutter slug and the edges are sharp and easily dig into the ramp and stick as they exit the mag on their way into the chamber.

I usually drop the spring down to one with a few lbs less pressure too. Stock pull is high till the break. IIRC stock pull is twelve or thirteen lbs.

What I had to spend the most time on mine was the extractor. A lot of little needle filing and tension adjustments to get it where it would pull stuff out right. I suspect it was rather abused by the previous owner.

a concealed carry permit. My friend just got a Concealed carry permit and it wasn't all that bad for him to get one here in NY which was surprising.

I always wanted a 357Mag to go with my lever gun to share the ammo. I also found that Coonan makes a 1911 in 357Mag....that I am interested in.

A pistol license in NYS is a concealed carry permit.. Each county, specifically the county judge is the issuer. Many county judges choose to put "administrative restrictions" on pistol licenses when granted (including my own). These restrictions are usually "hunting, hiking, camping, target" and the license carb itself usually lists these items.

I can't stand this idea, but before I go on too much of a rant and jacking this thread I'll stop there.

The only other type of pistol license I know of in NYS is an "on premises only" license..which means you are only legal to use it on your own property...I'm not even sure if you would be legal carrying a handgun for hunting with such a license unless on your own property... I'm not sure if this type of permit is ever issued any more, might not even be in the system at this point.

Just apply for your normal CC pistol license. With any luck, you have a good judge that will not place the arbitrary and unconstitutional restrictions on you. If you prefer not to carry, don't. At least you can if you wish at some point down the line.

A 1911 made to chamber 357 mag????? I have not heard of this critter.... Seems like alot of HP for a 1911 to handle... How do they address the longer 357 mag cartridges??? Is it possible that it is chambered in 357 Sig??? That seems more feasible to me as I am not sure a 1911 action can be made to cycle the significantly longer 357 mag cartridges.. Of course, I could be wrong..which is likely the case...

Edit: Just checked out Coonan and I stand corrected! That IS cool! Up till now I thought you could only get magnum HP in an auto with the Deagles!

    No problem brother...

Now I know some folks call an unrestricted permit a Concealed Carry, and call the permit with restrictions as I have a "sporting license". This isn't the correct nomenclature technically speaking when taking what I stated above into account. What many refer to as a "sporting license" is really a concealed carry permit with the restrictions... It's all really a bunch of administrative hogwash. And being as there is no open carry allowed in NYS except for uniformed Law Officers, you really never have to worry about having your permit questioned so long as you keep it properly concealed when you are carrying.

Nice looking gun, and I imagine the muzzle loader should be a blast.

Some of the most fun guns I ever shot was a vintage Colt 45 that one of my friends owned and another friends Nickel plated snub nose 38 Smith and Wesson because it was nearly impossible to hit an orange from only 10 feet away with that one, and the other was a real Thompson Sub Machine gun set up as a semi that I and a few of my other friends bought out of a catalog when we were kids . . We also had fun making mini contact explosive crystals and a few other entertaining things.

    .....................

If I remember correctly, it was illegal to have the hand grip and round clip shown in the last photo so the legal version looked like this.

The fun version looked like this.

What a bunch of nonsense. It almost sounds as if the powers that be insert these little footnotes, too hard to keep track of in order to get people to break the rules in order that the permit be revoked. I know its is unrealistic to expect lifelong residents to uproot and move, but honestly I cant fathom how some conservatives, for lack of better terms, tolerate living in some of these ultra progressive liberal states like NY, CA and so on.
There is enough legalities involved in holding a CCW in even the most relaxed policy states, to make it over complicated with sub genres and rules based on wording. You either have a CCW or you dont, and clearly know where All CCW holders are forbidden to carry...That is the way it should be.
Here is where my long useless list of stuff nobody cares about should go...

We did try moving to NC for 4 years....couldn't stand the heat and Hurricanes (Floyd sucked). The part of NY (Western) that I am in is beautiful and has the hunting, fishing and everything I grew up liking.
Just hoping someday they separate the good part of NY that I am in from the Albany south to the Armpit of the state (NYC) from the rest of us normal people.

Plus in NC the locals didn't take kindly that I was married to an Asian woman in a lot of areas that really surprised me.

My carry gun is a Ruger LCR .38+P. It's light and fits in my pants pocket without any problems. I contemplated the LCR in .357, but don't like shooting them in the light weight frames.

I have to qualify 3 times a year with my .38 and it kinda stings at the end of the day. I could only imagine what my hand would feel like after 150 rounds of .357.

My next buy will likely be a Taurus Poly Protector in 38......Just love revolvers. Ive put 100 through in 357 in a day without issue......Huge difference when ya do that and then throw some 38sp in! Feels like a 22 after the 357!

Mosh you are absolutely right. I don't want to distract this thread too much, but I'm sure it goes without saying that us "country folk" here in NY are saddled with alot of garbage that originates downstate. It really does suck to live in NYS because the the politics.. If I didn't have so much family here I would be a Texan by now. All we can do is vote and call (pester) our state representatives... I have good state reps, but many times they are just plain outnumbered by the tyrants who have no issue shredding the constitution..

Hey Barnett! That looks like a Smith model 36 with a square grip frame. I have the blued version with the round grip frame. They aren't meant for much accuracy very far downrange, but they carry nice and easy and pack enough punch to get the job done in a defense situation... I leave the longer range tasks to my longer barreled 44 mags and my 460 mag.

For that type of pistol, I kind of like the S&W M&P line...

Of the two, I like the looks of the Taurus better. Looks pretty similar to an M&P
