I had a taurus millennium pro. It was a pos...hard to take down, occasional ftf and after a small handful of ftfs and a stovepipe or 2, we dumped it. It was the Mrs. primary carry until it decided to suffer from reliability issues.
I wont tolerate a primary carry weapon having any malfunctions especially for her, and when my life or her life is on the line, anything sub 500$ range IMO is not up to the task unless it is a DA revolver.FTF...pull the trigger again.....Even the BG 380 makes me a little nervous, but I am confident enough with it so far that I trust it and our abilities as shooters to use it if needed. Although the likelihood is slim that 98% of any of us will ever have to draw, I still want reliability and being frugal in defense is one place I feel better spending the extra coin.
I have had a few M&P 9s and 40s in the compact frames, and they work flawless. I sold the 40 a few weeks back and my primary carry consists of the M&P 9c and the bodyguard 380. The mrs will also carry one of those.
I prefer the MP9 for carry although, it is a little bulky but it is dead nutz accurate and reliable as hell. I will probably move to a LC9s or sig P938 in the future for ultra compact carrying in 9mm...Along with a good piece, a moderate self defense and tactical course is worth it's weight in gold. Kinda like trikes..You can have all the hi dollar goods, but if you don't use the stuff right, or have the knowledge, none of it will do you any good.

454 casull and SW 460s have been giving me wet dreams lately, and I feel I must satisfy the urge for the sake of the sheets.

Mosh, have you looked into the Glock G43 in 9mm? It's a slim single stack that does compromise capacity a little, but it's rock solid reliable. I personally like wheel guns for my carry weapons, I carried my Glock 27 for years, but wanted something a little smaller and the G43 wasn't available at the time so I went with the LCR. If I was to go back to an auto carrier gun, it will be a Glock.

I am a big fan of Ruger but 7+1 doesn't appeal to me, which is one of the reasons I was looking at the G2 and the SCCY which are 10+1 capacity. Obviously the price of each is attractive and that is why I wanted opinions. Isn't the G2 a new design? Regardless, that review will stick in my head and likely rule it out.

I have primary carry covered and just want something that fits in my pocket. Chances are if it takes 500+ to get something to fit that bill then it just isn't going to happen. The SCCY is attractive for the price, the capacity and also the size which is a bit larger at 3.1 inches barrel length. I have also held this already and I must say it fit and felt good in my hand. I have access to quality gunsmithing as well if there are any issues that can be addressed in that manner so maybe I should just go with that one and see how I like it.

Get the 460 Mosh! You won't regret it.. You can fire 454 Casull from a 460, but not the other way around.

Double hearing protection is highly recommended. Single is acceptable on occasion.. NEVER fire one with no hearing protection for any reason.

100% agree! I don't own one but I have fired one. So excited to shoot it I pulled my fingers out of my ears walked up and fired. No hearing protection!Stupidity in its finest moment on my part. Literally an hour before could hear normal without any ringing. After that another guy burnt his finger because he had it too close to the chamber. Awesome firearms but deserve an extra level of respect when using.

Not sure where you live or what you pay for sales tax, but Classic Arms has this version (all black is out of stock) for 229.00, shipping to MN was 16.00 and I would have to pay my FFL 20.00, so 265.00 compared to Cabela's 299.00 + tax.

    https://www.classicfirearms.com/sccy...without-safety

ETA: Cabela's website is down for maintenance so I can't see exactly what model you had linked, can't remember either, looked at it a few days ago.

That is the correct one thanks for the link! I also just noticed they come with a lifetime warranty.

Oh man that must have been brutal!!

When I was about 18 years old I made the same excitement induced mistake with a Grizzly 50BMG... I swore I had blood running out of my ears. The ringing didn't stop in my right ear for about 3 weeks, the left didn't subside for almost 3 months. I have lost some hearing, particularly in my left ear and I'm pretty sure that 50 played a significant role in that.

FTR: I never fire any handgun (including 22s) without hearing protection with the exception of at game in the field and in that case nothing higher powered than my 44mags. Even then it sucks.

Same with rifles, only exception being in the field firing at game.

Fortunately, I was a reciepient of some gift cards at the local sporting goods store. So basically I went in when they had the Ruger LC9S on sale, got them to price match a bargain gunshop and walked out with it for virtuall free. And I gotta say with a 3.5 pound smooth as glass trigger pull, it shoots lights out at 35 yards with anythin I throw in it, including my own loads. You really can't beat it at 339$.

It is 7+1, only comes with one mag, and does have a mag disconnect safety that does not allow firing without a mag, but for a carry unit, it is balls a accurate. The mag safety feature can be bypassed, but I don't see the need to do so. But don't sell yourself short of checking one out. Imo, it is nicer than the M&P shields with a hell of a price difference.

Speaking of handloads... Sounds like you are off to the races Mosh!

I have been stepping up my game with my rifle rounds, mainly the 338 Win Mag.. I have been experimenting with neck sizing and custom COL to improve accuracy. Unfortunately while doing all of this I had a bad scope on that rifle. I just got a new Leupold VX1 a couple of weeks ago and look forward to more range time with it and my ammo custom tuned to that rifle.

I determined my scope was the problem by borrowing a known good scope from my brother. Laying prone on the ground in the woods with a very basic rest the rifle and my ammo produced 3 round groups with holes touching at 50yds. Things opened up a bit at 100yds, but that was to be expected with the less-then-benchrest shooting position.

There is just something fun about touching off 72gr of IMR4350 pushing a 225gr SST to just under 3000fps!

Yeah I want to get a bolt action long range rifle at some point, but this state has no hi power big game hunting so I have not made it a priority.

Funny you mention loading as well. I also recently started loading rifle rounds for the AR. I am getting 3200 fps out of 55 gr hornadys. Its a little hard to tell but here is a 8x15 inch steel plate at 48 yards with my loads, box 223, and box m193 rounds off hand with iron sights. Pretty pleased so far with my first reloads in this cartridge. I know I can clean that group up, but they all are off hand in some pretty gusty winds and sub freezing temps for now.

    Very nice!

I can certainly understand the bolt action longer range rifle being on the back burner if you cannot use it to hunt with. You really have to like and spend alot of time at the shooting bench to justify the investment when that's all it can be used for... I have heard of some of the regulations in some states as far as what can and cannot be used in terms of rifles... Seems kind of crazy for someone like me to read about being that I can use any centerfire cartridge, even up to a 50 BMG...not that I would.

I picked this up for a song the other day. M1917 Eddystone 30-06 Sporterized probably 60 years ago. It has a 50's-60's era Weaver scope and custom stock. I haven't shot it yet, but it needs new optics before I do that. 60 year old scopes leave a lot to be desired.

Although I have not yet bought an old rifle with a vintage scope, I would love to. If the scope is still working, that's icing on the cake to me. Lots of guy still like and use vintage scopes.

    Nice old rifle Bryan.

Here are pics of my Winchester 70 from the dealer when I bought it. It now has a new Leupold VX1 and a leather sling.
