    250r Display Case/Garage Bar

I was looking for ideas on how to display my 250r out in my garage. The bike is going to officially be retired and is now a conversation piece. I'm going to be building a new garage and it will probably be a gathering spot for parties in the near future.

I want something that we can sit around and enjoy a few beverages, so I'd like it to function as a table/bar, but also double as a protective case for the bike. I'm thinking about having it on casters for mobility?

Has anyone on here ever built something similar? Glass is out of the question due to cost and the inviroment it will be living in.

I think glass will be your only choice for longevity and ease of cleaning. I believe there's a special type of glass that jewelry store display cases are made from and are designed to take a beating. Afterall you want to see it! Plexiglass will look good for the short term but will scratch over time.

I always thought about building a large box enclosed with glass to look like a matchbox car package, just way huge. Depending on your creativity - it could be really awesome.

This isn't exactly what i'm thinking but it has a couple things about it that might start to explain what I'd do. I'm trying to find other images.

A combination of materials, maybe oak plywood, oak trim, thick plexi for side veiwing panels, insert style, and tempered glass for the table top inserts, for durability. Lights inside.

Then of course the table top would overhang enough to get bar stools on each side.

Tough to find pics of whats in my head but the point is durability combined with viewability

This will be neat to see how you do it.

We're both thinking along the same lines. A single sheet of glass for the top is rediculously expensive, but several smaller pieces in between wood would definitely do the trick. I like the light idea.

You could get away with a cheaper wood or even MDF by covering it with thin aluminum diamond plate. If you split the case and put both sides on casters, the two halves could clip together around the machine. Then the machine could still be accessed and rolled around easily.

You could always build a display case from a shipping crate and some old windows.

Maybe hang it from the ceiling? Why are you so concerned about having it enclosed. Not that I think it's a bad idea, but I always like to be ably to view museum pieces from every angle.

Speaking of museum pieces, maybe we should start a petition to get the Smithsonian to make a 3 wheeler/ATV evolution exhibit? The American History Museum has similar ones with Automobiles and such.

I would pledge to donate my mint KLT250.

I want it to be a gathering spot for the garage during social times and to keep all the dust and crap off of it.

For the glass try a commercial glass place that does installations on buildings. They sometimes will have some sheets that where made the wrong size, or have small damage like weld burns that make them worthless. You may even luck out an get bullet proof glass for cheap. I did once. A bunch of old school bus side windows might be used to make something up too if you can find one at a wreckers.

If it was me I'd gather up enough cheap glass and then figure out a frame design. Your frame is likely going to end up being either wood or steel.

Here's some high end examples to ponder.

get a used, glass top, patio table off of craigslist. cheap cheap. this time of year everyone is tossing their sets and getting new stuff for the spring anyway. you could just cover the umbrella hole with a drink tray or bottle display or something and you'd have a really cheap piece of tempered glass. design your build dimensions around that.

Good idea, redsox. Especially since plexiglass is so very expensive.
