recovering 200X seat, cannot get the staples to grab into the seat plastic

I am recovering my 1984 200X seat, but i cannot get the staples to grab into the seat plastic, best i can get is for the staple to grab in about 1mm-2mm, but it will not seat down level with the plastic. Its a heavy duty staple gun. Any hints on how to get the staples to seat, or alternate methods of attaching the cover to the seat, ....help

Never done it myself, but my guy has a heavy duty pneumatic stapler. What are you using? Hand held?

Is there an upholstery place near you? Some things are just best left to the pros.

Harbor Freight air powered staple gun. Not a crown stapler, but pneumatic air stapler. It's the only way you're going to get through the pan.

yea....well... not sure how many 200X seat pans you have laying around, but when I break something down here it usually means a 30 day wait and a 500 miles round trip for replacements, so I try to pick my battles as best I can.

I used a cheap arrow manual stapler for mine. Just gotta hold the stapling end down FIRM through the squeeze of the trigger. Youll get it. Mine came out A ok Click image for larger version.

What BKM said. I got a cheapy from Menards for something like 12.99 a few years ago. I think I've only used it for seats so far. Once it dies I'll buy a quality one.

I got a cheap upholstery air stapler from Home Depot online. Works excellent. Recovering seats is not a hard thing to learn ,I taught myself because I was getting tired of paying an upholstery shop big bucks for something I can do myself. A cheap heat gun is a big help too.Click image for larger version.

This is what I used when I redid mine. I had to use my brother for an extra set of hands to run the stapler while I/we stretched the seat cover.
