My first Honda ATC 250 SX

Hello 3 wheeler world yesterday after selling 3 1984 Honda ATC 125m's I had lying around I decided I needed something to tinker on and I found this a 1985 Honda ATC 250 SX.
The gentleman said he was having problems keeping it running and when I got there and took a look it didn't look to bad minus the home made racks and a wiring nightmare. The rubber boot for the shaft drive was still there all tires were holding air and the engine didn't have any leaks. So I decided to pick it up. I payed $170.00 (CAD) for this little thing and I just realized it has reverse.
If anyone has one of these please contact me and let me know what to look for.

Exactly why I sold my R and got the SX. Look at my 250SX resto in my signature. Your's look's complete. You stole it.

I am having an issue with no spark any ideas I was hoping I could just connect the bare minimum to see if she will fire up?

rear end gear oil, for sure.
Make sure shifter isn't chewing splines, side to side rocking check of swing arm bearings.

drip penetrant down cable to carb enrichment piston.
Great machines, for sure.

ps - spark?
ngk plugs are best.
Could be as simple as nipping the last tiny bit off the plug wire to grab fresh copper with the plug cap screw.

Sometimes key switch get corroded and will work slightly OFF full on.


search key works great.
Maybe try 'no spark' or sx spark or read all posts about no spark.Surely there are tons of posts

There is a link to the manual. How bad was the wiring? Could be a simple as a bad plug. Kill switch(?)

Give the CDI a couple taps. Not hard.

I have a spare coil and CDI unit for my '83 200X. (not selling) but you are free to try. Not sure where you are in the Hammer. I am east end below the mountain.

Not for your spark issue but, there is a fuse and a solenoid where the frame and left side rear grab par meet.

Hey Tri Again thanks for the tips & Rob Canadian thanks for the manual (will a 200x cdi work on my 250sx?) and thank you CTK for the info on the fuse & solenoid.
Hey Honda4h do you have a wire harness for my 1985 Honda ATC 250 SX (Round Pin CDI)?
Nothing has worked yet but the more I look at it the more I realize this wire harness is past its prime.
If anyone on 3wheeler has a good harness for the SX please let me know. Also could anyone tell me what other machines used the same harness years etc.

I added a picture of the 125M & 185S in the snow with my 1983 F150 It was a fun day o degrees and my buddy and I rode for a couple hours.
