questin about 250 sx rear end - is it posi, or limited slip?

I got a Honda Big Red 250 ES. Love it for around the yard work. But I cant do power slides, etc. like I used to be able to on my old 200s, which had dual spinning rear tires.

Looking for another 3 wheeler to have fun with, for this winter. I"d like to get a 250sx. but I think they have the same rear end as the honda big red....is that correct?

If so, guess I'lll look into getting a 200x, or another 200s (or 200m, with electric start).

I thought I was reading the rear end of big red 250es and 250 sx are the same?

The 250es has one more tooth on the ring gear to turn the 25” tall tires so not the same differential

OK, one more tooth on ring gear for the big red. but big red has limited slip diff, right? (where both tires dont turn the same speed??). Is the 250sx in fact a "solid axle", where both wheels spin at same speed?

OK, I stand corrected.....then why was it so much easier to do "drifting" on a couple inches of snow on my 200s, versus my big red 250es, which doesnt want to drift at all??

200s is a lot lighter machine .

Mike, if both your rear tires are not "spinning" at the same speed (during acceleration, more noticeable in mud or snow), I would check the axle/hub splines first.

Can you do donuts with it on gravel? Hold the front brake and spin both tires? It should hog out two ruts. Lol

MonroeMike, I really cant tell if the rear wheels are turning at the speed or not...I'm not able to twist my head like "exorcist" girl, and look under my machine -LOL....

I was just going off some foggy memory, where I "thought" I read the big red rear wheels dont turn at same speed...thats why I was using the term "posi", and "limited slip"....I jsut know my 200s was so damn much easier to do power slides in the snow...I'm looking for another machine to have fun with....so, what would you guys pick, to have some drifting fun this winter....200s (better yet, 200m, as it has electric start!), a 200x, or a 250sx....I'd like to stick with a 4-stroke...yes, i know the ATC250R is a sick drifting machine, but just want to stick with a 4-stroke.

At this point you may want to change tires to a type that doesn't grab as much; That should help it slide....

I usually just look behind me and see if it's slinging mud or snow from both sides. You could always jack up one side and see if the wheels turns with the other on the ground and vice verse.

It may be fine, like Shortline said, the 200s is lighter or DC's comment about the tires.

I have been to your house, I bought a 200s carb from you in 2009, seen your Big Red, glad I made such a memorable impression...lol.
