How do I know what I have?

Hi, Everyone. I got a wheeler for $50 and I have no idea what it is...Other than it is a 1985 Yamaha. This is my first three wheeler. It has no plastic. I wrote the VIN down and went to my local dealer. They told me that Yamaha does not keep records back that far and that they couldn't help me out. Anyway, I have an engine number but not sure if that will tell me what I need to know. If I can tell from this, I will post it on here. I have an pic so maybe that will help you out. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am sure I will be asking a lot of questions and looking for plastic and other parts to get her back running. Thanks!

I see a reverse lever. Its a 85 225DR. From the looks of the headlight it was prob light blue. Any 225 DX or DR plastic will fit it. Search the forum for either and you will see al ot of different pictures of them.

Yep, I see a lever too defiantly a 225DR. Like Mike said almost all parts are interchangeable.

If its an 85 than its a DRN. So it is a Yamaha 225DRN.

I am pretty sure the "N" is just for the year model. When looking for parts it doesnt matter, as the 225dx and 225dr parts interchange.

As for the aftermarket plastic, I haven't seen any for the ytm225's.

I am a vintage jap motorcycle guy and have only restored bikes back to their original condition. I am wondering if I should put this one back original or do something different. Is my 225DRN rare enough to put back original or should I customize it?

I know I ask a lot of questions but I do not know that much about trikes. Thanks for the input.

The DR is not exactly a rare model, I would do what you want with it. There are not a ton of them around but they are there.

    What bikes have you restored?

1983 Yamaha YTM 200 (rear suspension kit)..... long term project

There's a manual for that in Oscar Mayer's collection.
