    new to me 200x

Hi guys, I troll these forums all the time but dont post a whole lot. Love the site.

Anyway I came across this 86 200x on CL this week. Even though my garage is almost full I couldn't pass it up. Ended up getting it for $350. Its complete minus the headlight. The chain was majorly stretched and the rear tires shot but I have a ton of spare parts so no biggie for me. I threw some flat tracker ohtsu's I had for my 250R, changed the chain and the thing rips. pulls way harder than I expected. It will be a ton of fun. Check out the pics and let me know what you think, I have a few questions too though :

I am thinking that the axle may be bent some, the left rear wheel has a wobble. Its either that or I somehow did not tighten the hub down right. I have a spare 83 250R axle, will that work? What other axles will work with the 86-87 200x?

I have read about problems with the kick starter mechanism on 200x's. Is that limited to the 1 gens or do the 86-7's have that problem too?

They are fun I'm redoing mine right now still don't know much about it accept 86 is the year plagued with the kicker shaft that likes to break mine is one of them and god don't lose your kicker they are gold. They are a blast to ride nobody expects a 200 to pull like that

Anybody that designs something that they say is completely idiot proof, fails to realize the resourcefulness of a complete idiot.

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at and repair.

Thanks for the comments, regarding the kickstarter I am not really worried about the kicker itself, my comp cable seems to be working but I will check it per the manual in a few days. I am more worried about the kick starter gears and spring that have issues in the pre-85 200x's.

Yes, I have a bit of an ATV addiction, specifically vintage Hondas. Maybe its more of a craigslist thing, I dont buy anything unless I get a good deal. Not all of these are in my garage but I currently have :

3 1985 FL350R odysseys, two fully restored with many many mods. 1 is a sled motor swap project, and another roller for parts.
    83 ATC 250R
    85 ATC 110
    86 ATC 200X (now heh)
    96 CR250
    94 YZ250
    93 CR125
    91 KX80
    79 CX500
    80 CB900

Hope to have fun here, especially when I start going through the 250R in the near future.

Yo Sunblock! Nice 86 you got there. Can be a great machine and great looking with a lil work.

The kicker can snap on the 86! Be careful, went through it myself, not hard to fix, but was a pain when it happened. Great trail bike!

    You need a Pilot man!!!
    Nothing to ride... for now

Yeah a Pilot would be nice, can never find good deals on them out here though.

Funny thing is I just moved to this new house for its extra garage space a couple months back.

I don't think you'll ever have an issue with the kicker gears such as the 85 and under did. The only issue is what Twilight touched on, that 17mm small shaft snaps so do make sure the decomp cable is spot on.

Those bikes are a blast, nice score!!

Thanks guys, the front tire looks big but I think it is just the small tires I have on the back that create the illusion. the axle is definitely warped, I am going to try taking it to a machinist to see if it can be bent back. I hear some have had luck with that.

Ok, do you mean the shaft that the kicker resides on, or the actual kicker itself? They both look ok and I can see that the comp cable moves about 1/4 inch when I kick it, but I haven't checked it per the manual yet.
