Yamaha Big Wheel Electrical Problem???? Please Help

i have a 86 yamaha BW 200ES. the bike was given to me siezed up and i got it unsiezed and running great. i let it sit for about 2 weeks and now i can't get it to start or even spark at all. i put a new coil on it but that didn't fix it. my next idea is the CDI box. i have heard that these machines have problems with the CDI Box. i was wondering if anybody has had any eleltrical problems with these or if you have any advise on what to do. thanks

Have you checked the stop switch for a bad connection (especially if it's been sitting outside - corrosion).

If that isn't it, I'd check the ignition wiring, from power to the coil for shorts, before I replaced the CDI.

I have disconected the switch wiring and it still won't get spark. The power wire to the coil has power running to it too I have checked. Could it be the pulser? I need to do a check of the cdi resistance with a volt meter. Thanks for the suggestions please keep the comming

Have you checked the connectors to the cdi, pulsar, stator, etc. to make sure they are not loose or for corrosion? You should probably undo each one and take a peek at the ends. Any one of the above mentioned could be faulty, I hate electrical problems...

    electric

dont just go replacing parts if you dont know they are bad.go through every component one by one with multimeter and check.the specs can be found in 3ww.common problem with electrical work throw everything at it and see what sticks.dont do this.

yup i fixed it last week and have started the real restoration now. it ended up being a bad connection in the key ignition. didn't find it until a full continuity/resistance test of the electrical system. i spent some money on parts that i really didn't need but oh well now i have an extra cdi and pulser. not the worst thing that could have ahppened. i rode it around this wekend, lot of fun

Hey guys, I'm sorry to kinda hijack a thread here but I thought I'd ask. I have a 1985 BW 200. It runs fine cold but when it gets hot after riding about 15 min. it starts to sputter and hesitate some when riding it. It does not want to idle when it's like this either. I know it's not the carb because i replaced the carb and it is still doing the same thing. Spark plug is new. I do run premium gas in it. Do you guys think it's the gas or possibly something electrical? Maybe a bad cdi, coil, or voltage regulator? I would deeply appreciate it if anyone has any input!

Coil is bad. the temps mess with its performance.

Ok thank you so much! So on this page, under electrical, - http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmot...bw200n/o/m7030 , is it #1 the ignition coil assembly?, do i need the spark plug wire as well or does my old one it just plug into it?

The coil didn't fix the problem. I have purchased a cdi from a 1982 XT 250 and am going to see if it will work.

old thread... im guessing the cdi swap did not work? I am looking for swappable parts to the BW200/350's .. I have a head and carb from a warrior 350 which is newer and should have better valving in the head and acc. pump in the carb - but CDI's? thats a longshot..

any ideas on the carb joint for the BW200? or the carb? would a TW200 setup work?
