I have yet to find a running issue with these 250s that isn't cured by simply removing and cleaning the carb. While your at it, remove and clean out your tank and petcock..

Guarrantee this will cure whatever ails it!!

Unless you have done this there is really no point in everyone trying to diagnose it's particular running problem..

    Get cleaning!!

is there any change with the choke on a little?
did it ever run correctly that you've heard? or is it new to you.

I'm with doug on this one.
Carb clean but also clean the tank and petcock screen.
The carbs aren't real fun to do but very interesting for sure.
There's a hidden emulsion tube under one of the screw in jets that plugs up with muck,
that is, if you even have to go that far.

But please keep us posted on what you find.
