What would you think if ATC's went back into production?

    Hi
Just looking for your opinion and the opinion of the community
I know that some people have said that their love for trikes comes from the vintage-ness and the nostalgia, whereas other like things that perform up to par with modern ATV's (i.e. TPC trikes). What do you think?

edit: if this is in the wrong sub-forum, sorry

I think it would be cool.....But, I don't think there is a market to support the R&D it would take for the companies to produce something competitive. If any of the manufacturers decided to produce them, I would assume it would be in limited numbers and models. They would most likely be high performance machines and would mostly appeal to the old school crowd, racers and people who ride in the sand.

We all know it will probably never happen but I would buy a new one in a heartbeat but only if they still had the same look. I would buy a new 4 wheeler today if they would build a new TRX250R with the same styling as the 86-87 88-89, engine, fenders and all. In my opinion the 250R would out sell all the sport model ATV's they have today, not to mention the engine and other parts would benefit all of the ATC250R enthusiasts. Just like the automotive industry, where they built the new Camaro and the Shelby mustang . I believe Honda would greatly benefit by using the iconic designs from the 1986-89 TRX250R, 200X/350XATC250R and built a brand new ATV. They wonder why they have 450Rs sitting on the showroom floors from 2009,lol. As for the ATC's, if they went back into production ,that would be a wish come true and I would be first in line to buy one. Also be the first to buy a TRX!

This is just too funny. You don't know how many times I have seen people offer to make parts or make parts, and so many people say they want the items, and then bow out leaving people on the hook. Those that want new trikes, are getting units made. Most people who dream, just don't have the means to follow through, i.e. CASH! The people who are seriously interested, have already been making their dreams come true. There are several people that have built and sold different trikes and parts and such, and I thank them all. Some have built their own, which I find truly remarkable. But for people to think the major makers are going to go back and build something that most people don't want, it ain't happening. The big 3 were all too happy to end trike production and devote their time and money to quads. If you want to build a new trike, their are several on here who will help you, but you have to open up the wallet.

Unfortunately there is one simple truth to why trikes will never see mass production again..economics!!

No manufacturer will ever design, tool-up, and bring to production a machine that has such a high probability of being banned due to public outcry over safety concerns(again)!!

No company would make take that gamble! Especially with quads being so popular.

To elaborate on vealmonkeys post a little, no Honda will never bring them back. You don't know how many threads have been brought up about this. If your looking for that modern trike with that old honda look, behold the 2013 TPC 450r. I believe they start at like 9 or $11k? But of course they can be improved with more money. Or you buy the kits yourself.

Would I like to see a new ATC in production? No, because I wouldn't have enough money to buy it and I like being able I buy these great machines for what they go for now.

Now what I would like to see is the popular replacement parts being put back into production.

Hand over your wallet to this guy, he has some amazing builds. You just got to search for them. Then you'll have a brand new performance machine or a great looking one of a kind toy. I'll stop with the flattery now.

It would be real cool but it won't happen. Cool but I like having an old OG machine. But if you still want a "new trike" ...... If you can't beat em....... build em...

Just busy out Microsoft paint, ask a couple questions, and wait for parts to start showing up............

(Yes I know the TPC and Mr. Rirchard's bike look better SHUT UP FOR A YEAR OR SO AND WAIT!!! Lmfao)
too many bikes to count. too little time on hand.

Those TPC's are SWEET!!! Realistically the big manufacturers have no incentive to re-release or build new ATC's, but I would like to see a small company or machine shop (hell, even someone with a mill or CNC in their garage) offer pieces to adapt new quad and DB parts to the old ATC's (ex: custom triples to convert to inverts, adapters for new rear shocks, engine conversion kits, etc). If TPC isn't seeing a huge market for their trikes due to the [understandably] high price tag, maybe they could offer a DIY kit that would work with some older model quads for the budget-minded triker (myself included). Just my humble thoughts...

Modern trikes can be built inexpensively with smart shopping and a little know how. If you don't have the equipment, or friends with the equipment, but have plenty of money obviously a TPC is an easy way to own a modern trike but you can definitely build one economically. To be fair I believe you can get a build it yourself kit from them for $2600 but still the prices for a turn key trike from them seem to be a little exuberant. I can only assume it's because they're trying to make money.

I built my 450 for just under $3000 including buying the quad, having the triple trees CNCed, forks, tank, shrouds, headlight, raw materials needed, shipping a few items around, buying my buddy welding supplies. etc etc.

It would be cool... for the 3 people on this site that would own one. But the OEM and after market prices would make them frown. Well, maybe. If you have 3 - 11k to drop on a custom (newly manufactured in this case) trike it might make you smile. I like trikes the way they are, old as hell and without a market. There's a reason I could go pick up a 200s for $75 and I like that. To put it in perspective, this site's members probably have ~90% market share.

The fun thing about three wheelers is you can pick them up cheap, usually just clean the carb and change the oil and they fire up. Then you can drop a couple/few hundred dollars and have a machine with old school reliability.

I'd love to see both sport and utility being built. A "new" Big Red based on the new independent rear suspension Rancher. Yep, I could see that as my new ride!
